Ah, Corin, without doubt, the most learned person I have spoken to on a forum for a long time (and that is said straight and no with sarcasm whatsoever, I do respect you)

We may disagree on many of the things we say (but agree on an awful lot too), but at least you welcome my opinions and challenge them with honesty. Unlike those at Free Republic, I hasten to add.

Web forums are not a democracy, but are dictatorial in nature.

I just KNEW you'd pick me up on that. In fact, I put it there to see if you were still reading the thread! I know your style!

I put that in as a tongue-in-cheek reference to one of their stated aims on the home page. Allow me to share - "Reepers Against Voter Fraud! The whole point of this exercise is to get more conservative voters involved in changing the laws to close loopholes which make it easy to cheat, to promote the enforcement of existing election laws and to take part in the election process at the local level all with the goal of intercepting future fraud campaigns. In other words our goal is to STOP THE RATS FROM HIJACKING THE ELECTION PROCESS AND TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!"

A little ironic, when it is these types of democrats that rigged the 2000 polls, and have put in even more dodgy voting practises for this year's election.

Corin posted:
The people behind FreeRepublic are no more representative of American democracy than say the people behind Aryan nation, Timothy McVeigh, and others of that ilk.

You would have received the same treatment if there was an equivalent forum for the NF or BNP.

So you should be careful in not turning your criticism of extreme right wing groups into anti-American sentiment.

Since an American very well known to all of us is coming to stay at my place for a weekend in April, I'm definitely not anti-American! And, despite his ugly views, we both know that Mr McVeigh was stitched up.

Ever considered that there might be more progressive US based forums on the web?

I'll have a read of that one.

I fear my attempt at irony was missed. Those at Free Republic no doubt regard themselves as democratic in nature, but their idea of democracy is that only those people who agree with their views should be allowed to express an opinion. Summed up nicely (except I object to the bad language) in the signature image which I think you (or was it Edward Hammond?) had over on another forum.

For the beneft of those who do not frequent the New Republic forum, and the casual readers of this thread, you need to make these things clear in your posting.

As exemplified by the recent redistricting of congressional seats in the state of Texas.

Nor did I wish to imply that you were, but merely sounded a note of caution, since there are indeed those present in these forums who use just criticism to justify their own anti-American prejudices, when we all know that there are many US citizens who are just as outraged by the policies and methods of right wing activists, and even President G W Bush himself, not least Governor Dean, Senator John Kerry, Senator John Edwards, Senator Edward Kennedy, Senator Robert Byrd, etc etc.

Maybe you will even consider subscribing to the magazine. It at least shows that not everybody in the US is a gun toting right wing redneck as some people here may like to think. 'Rolling Eyes'

Dubya is being interviewed on CNBC at the moment.

Is this bumbling, incoherent fool really the leader of the free world?

I despair.

And then you have 'Big Teeth Tony' pottering about in London doing his best to lie to the British people.

I really don't see how Labour can win the next election. Tony & Co.'s opinion ratings are dwindling by the week. By August 2005, we'll have a new Prime Minister and a new American President - hopefully!

I especially liked how he seems to be building up his sentences out loud these days, perhaps because he has very little to say about Saddam's threat. It was something like...
"Weapons. Weapons in Iraq. Weapons in Iraq at the hands of Saddam Hussein" and soforth...marvellous!

I really dislike the guy, but I was embarassed for him at certain points. There were quite a few face-covering moments during the interview, reminding me of my reactions to Alan Partridge and The Office where the lead characters are blissfully unaware of how they are coming over.

As to JP's point, agreed. It's time for this to end.

Although John Kerry is a member of all the same societies as Dubya, so we may be in for more of the same, just with a different spin put on it.

World War III, here we come. Confused

This guy doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. He obviously thinks that any report that gave views from both sides of the argument during the war, was Anti-American. What an idiot.

Oh, and I thought we came to know the BBC as Auntie ... But, as usual, he obviously knows better. Rolling Eyes

Also, its ironic that the BBC is funding this page... (in one way or another) Sponsored link being the BBC Shop!

it was often shocking to see the network's allegedly impartial reporters and anchors indulging themselves in snide asides about the Americans or President Bush — posing questions that revealed an anti-war and anti-American agenda,

You should never question the almighty leader.

Fox News talking about bias is like North Koreas official title being "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" (and it is).

Do America not have broadcasting laws about bias in news programmes?

What a lot of sanctimonious nonsense from a lot of you about FOX News. How about BBC News' anti-Israeli pro-Palestinian bias, not to mention it being as negative towards the United States as it feels it can get away with. So if you want to criticise let's have some even-handedness.
