Nice to see itv being on the BBC rather than the other way round!

CSO is still CSO. I agree it's good, it's better than News 24's intermediate CSO set, but News 24's new set looks infinitely better. And it's better because you can tell it's real. There's a fundemental difference of attitude here - CSO, even if it was perfect (which it never is), is a trick - it's dishonest, because it attempts to dupe the viewer into believing something is the case when it isn't. So what game are they playing exactly? Do they think they're getting away with it? Because if they were, we wouldn't be talking about CSO right now, we'd be talking about whether it was CSO or not.
Basically ITV are putting out a dishonest message. They are attempting to dupe the viewer, and that will ultimately undermine the authority of the news itself. It's something the BBC realised and wisely steered clear of.

The most impressive thing for me is the actual keying and lighting to achieve it. I assume that the cameras are all upstream keyed when they arrive on the vision mixer (so that you cut to a composite when you cut to the camera, rather than having to key it on the desk, which is how the BBC virtual blue studio worked) Looks like Ultimatte quality keyers are being used - expensive but VERY good. No hint of colour fringing, disappearing frizzy hair etc. to be seen yet. Especially impressive when the presenters are standing close to the wall where colour spill could be a problem.

Erm...OK. Because the viewer feels the same twisted way as you?

Try thinking, honestly. You might feel a bit dizzy at first, but it'll get better with time.
