Just to add that for the last few days the itv news channel have not been showing a LIVE person in the 'breaking news for britain' idents between advert breaks.
The same person has featured continually for days now and you can never see which newsreader is coming up next - there is just a basic itv news channel slate where the newsreader usually appears!
Well Jez - the last bulletin is sunday tea-time and something special might be planned for the last ever HTV News bulletin! (i certainly hope so anyway)
I hope so too - but who will read the last bulletin? Maybe they will bring Lucy in specially, perhaps thats why she was absent on Friday!
EDIT - just seen HTV News and Richard Morgan is the weekend presenter!
Well the BBC never used a massive virtual wall behind them that displayed graphics for presenters and reporters to utilise did it?
Granted, the use of virtual elements in news studios has been done for a long time...but Mannion does say in his piece - not in this way. I think that ITV are taking on something unique - but whether it will pay off is another matter.
Oh, come on, it's not that revolutionary, Ison. Sky used an almost identical looking set for Vote 2001.
ITV News execs are full of poo; when the news channel relaunched it was all of this gung-ho "we're going to take on the BBC, then we're going to ruin Sky" blah, blah, blah.
It's not going to happen unless ITV actually spend some serious money on the NEWS operation. I'd rather they'd spent 1 million quid on producing some seriously decent reporting than a seen-most-of-it-before studio. The news channel probably could overtake News 24, but from what I have read they are not going to be spending anywhere near enough on it to make that a reality.
As impressive as Sky's studio was - it was rubbish. Lit poorly and ended up looking like a regional news programme from Albania - I was very disappointed with their completely virtual studio that evening.
I think you'll find that the team at ITN (who has always been good at doing virtual reports and so on) are making a much better job of the way the virtual element is incorporated. Remember, it's the main element of the studio and not just an add on...it's going to be seen in every single shot and near on 18 hours a day on the ITN News Channel.
But however, I do agree with the way execs are full of bull. Although it's going to look very nice...it still remains to be seen as to whether they can go one step further than News 24 and actually make it look good.
So, perhaps not completely revolutionary - but certainly different to the norm. And in an age where projectors and plasmas seem to be all the rage...it's a refreshing change!

Well, I'm still going to reserve judgement until I've actually seen it, but I think ITN could have done a hell of a lot more with a million pounds than just put up a giant green wall.
I've never understood why - with the whole of the ITN building at their disposal - they have not tried to present a show from different parts of the building. A main studio in one area, and convert some of the offices to mini-studios (one with a videowall, one virtual, one for general stuff) perhaps right across the building. They could fit a camera to a pole and have it move up and down the building's big open space.
Anyway, we shall see how well it works, if at all.
The ITV News Channel is using many of its occasional/holiday cover presenters this weekend - Lloyd Bracey in the daytime yesterday, John Nicolson, Sian Jones
Pity we haven't heard more about the new News Channel schedule yet
I should think with the amount of presenters and their availability, the ITV News Channel will have dual anchoring in the morning during the Breakfast programme, and during the evening, possible after the evening news. I wouldn't expect it overnight or during the day, but this is just a guess.
