Well having seen that pic of the side area of the set, I'd say it explains why the picture is always fuzzy in that area, the camera's obviously behind the glass.

I dont think so. The curved wall opposite clearly finishes and there is space for a camera next to it, the view of the presenter in this side set is almost from the same angle as the screen grap is taken.. just imagine its panned to the left a bit more and zoomed in.
Its a shame some of these views are not used on News24, the one from behind the presenter would be a good one everynow and then. What is the curved wall opposite for.. I assume the area with the larger screen is similar??
I must say there have been plenty of nice shots today during the Hutton coverage.. lots of zooming and panning during interviews
Just what I was thinking. Maybe they could incorporate some nice shots across the newsroom behind the N24 set during the countdown to the hour, or maybe a rear shot just before they cut to the presenter after the opening titles as an alternative to the overhead camera.
I was watching Newsround on Tuesday, and they were talking about tuition fees, and there was an interview with someone on the balcony across from the News 24 set, and you could see the set from behind the cameras. It was talked about earlier in the thread when they had put up glass over the balcony when there was interviews on stools in the sport area and Nick Highams bit.
News 24 has been making particularly good use of the ticker today, which is nice to see. I hope they continue to make a habit of displaying the "Update" ticker during big stories, as up till now they haven't been consistant. Although I suppose it does depend on the Director doing the shift at the time, I do think it would be better to have guidelines on when it should be used, and how it should be used to retain consistancy.
There were some more nice shots of the news centre, with the newsroom behind the News 24 set in view, during one of the reports. It would be nice if they used an opening shot, similar to ITN's old one, where the camera zoomed through the atrium to the newsdesk. They could zoom from an opposite balcony, to a view from behind the studio (like the picture posted by Moz below).
What's the area opposite the presenters? It looks like more big screens, but these are never seen on air so what are they. I mean the orangey type thing half way up and about a third of the way in from the left in the picture.

But don't you think rigid guidelines end up making a channel/program seem static/predictable and staid?
I'm not suggesting very rigid guidelines for every aspect of the channel, just for elements such as the ticker - things which
should
be made use of regularly for general information, and not the actual presentation of each shift. Sometimes you want the ticker to be there and its not, other times it is. It seems like something that, to me, should be more consistant. I welcome the use of different camera angles, presentation styles etc. for each shift.

Hmm certainly looks like a set I've not seen...yet. The bit on the far right looks like the Washington studio (which of course it isn't).
