I can reveal that the set looks very very impressive.

Theres new titles (blue and yellow in colour although the end of them is quite disappointing). The music is similar to the present tune, but different and I think like Sky News.

The astons are nice too.......

The headlines I think will incorporate the regions too...

I saw it all for the first time today and I really am impressed...

You will not be disappointed.

At the moment:

Studio 1: Main ITV News Studio, with the desk, screen, backdrop etc
Studio 2: CSO Studio. Used for graphics in reports and ITV News Channel occasionally
S1 and S2 are on the same floor, below the ITV Newsroom
Studio 3: Used for Channel 4 News.
Studio 4: Next to the ITV Newsroom, with backdrop of newsroom. Was a mess when I saw it.
Studio 5: Five News.

So the main studio is probably in Studio 2 is Virtual Reality is required. I don't know, however, where reports such as those used in Iraq will come from now.

It'll be interesting to see how Virtual Reality is used. I wonder if it's all virtual or if it's just for headline graphics and stuff. I don't like seeing virtual reality on the news myself, but if they do it well, it can work. The BBC's pre 99 studio worked as the biggest part of VR was just the start and end, the backdrops were pretty easy to do, and look fine.

Maybe they will use Studio 1 for a studio for the news channel along with a VR section for reports. That's if they don't use studio 1 for London Today/Tonight.

Whilst the pre-beige BBC News studio looked (and is often referred to as) "virtual" - it wasn't really. There were elements of the look that were CSOed in - and there was clever masking to integrate real set elements, real presenters and electronic graphics elements. However in modern speak "virtual" implies the ability for cameras and electronic backgrounds to be linked - so that camera movement is followed by the fake backgrounds. The cut-glass BBC branding didn't allow for this - however there was a clever fake camera move (in the same mould as the current ITV1 News fake camera zoom at the beginning of the bulletin) which used a DVE and animated laser disc backing to make it look virtual.

Be interesting to see how the regional headlines work - wonder if they will be done "BBC analogue" style - with the regional studios carrying a network feed from ITN, and returning this to the various ITV presentation areas (LNN, Leeds etc.) allowing the regional centre to cut away, or whether the regional headline will be cut up by ITV presentation as a hard cut (and interesting to see how the ITV1 London headline works either way)

Also be interesting to see if a clean music bed can be provided under the regional headlines one way or another.

The set sounds like it doesn't have a newsroom backdrop, can you shed any light on this.

Well I hope it has something really impressive. You said regional headlines will be incorporated in the main headlines, this cannot be done on the Evening News, is it possible it will only happen on all the other bulletins?

A suggestion about changes to the composition of the 6-7 news hour was made at the start of this thread...

But poorly they didn't have a proper start and just did one of those short zoom-in's and straight into the opening story. I was hoping to hear "The ITV Weekend News and Sport with Bill Neely and Steve Scott" on the opening booming voice

Shhhhhhhh!

Don't tell them that!

If you tell them it's all integrated bulletins, they'll all shout "LIAR" at you!

I wonder if the News Channel will take the main London Tonight programme in full, or if it will do a UK Today-style filler? Or do its own thing entirely between 6 and 7?

It's one thing for the NC to take the lunchtime and late night London Tonight bulletins, but a full 30 mins is another matter.
