Just what was it about Ken and his pork chops tonight that deserved such significance ? He discussed them with the builder, in the Kabin, and then we saw him prodding them with great care and attention under the grill. But to what ends ?

I hope this is one storyline they follow up next episode, I really need to know what became of those chops. Laughing

Please someone tell me that Cilla is only a short-term character?

I think it will be good that the new producer will use some of the older cast members more however I hope this is not too much at the expense of some of the younger characters who need to grow into the programme - and afterall are its future. I can remember lots of the older cast dying/getting sacked in the early-mid 80s and I can see some of the older members leaving over the next few years as the workload of the ridiculous 5-a-week schedule gets to them - we're all getting older!!

For instance, Fiz and Kirk would make the perfect new Jack and Vera (following Hilda and Stan) I hope the silly split over Tyrone (another underused character) doesn't last.

Its good to see Janice in it more at the moment, I hope this continues, and I'd like to see more of Eileen.

Is the new builder related to Carole Smiley? His continuous grin is really irritating.

Someone above mentioned the need for a Rovers faelift - there should be a campaign to redecorate the Rovers, it has been like that since 1986 for goodness sake!! That's one way the new producer could stamp his mark!

There, I've had my rant Smile

I think the "chops" storyline will develop somewhat - I think they will slowly burn/go cold as Dreary drinks with mysterious new woman in the pub therefore returning home late and facing the wrath of Ken and his poor burnt chops? perhaps? ! Gripping stuff Wink

And how long has Charlie West or whatever his name is Laughing had a full builders yard just opposite from Elliot and Sons Quality Meats, and whats with the asbestos roof remark. Stuff like this generally isn't thrown in for the sake of it!

Also, in the cafe have you noticed a little serving hatch style door in the back wall, but where does it go!, another one of those corrie set mysteries!

Charlie Stubbs he's called, and that builders yard (which strikes a very close resemblence to Len Fairclough's old building yard - a la curved doors) has been in the set since at least 2000, when the set was given a minor overhaul with the viaduct next to the Rovers that must have trains running over the roofs of houses, the old club on Rosamund Street turned into a health centre (which seems to be derelict and a place no-one visits*), and of course the three shops on Victoria Street.

* - apart from Blanche Hunt who is suffering from old bag-itus Laughing

At last someone else has noticed the pointless viaduct next to the Rovers - it doesn't even appear in the rear views of the houses in the otherwise good opening titles! (I've been driving my partner mad for ages with this point...) It is a very careless error.

Although the layout of the downstairs of the Rovers has never been perfectly matched to the outdoor set, if you think about it (and draw it out) the living room and kitchens would be somewhere in the middle of Rosamund Street near the chip shop...

Yes the setup of the Rovers has never matched the outside, it was worse before the fire in 1986, they had a fairly large function room, which they used for wedding receptions, parties etc at the side of the rovers (Rosamund Street side) and after the fire the space where that room was just seemed to vanish. The bit at the side of the bar where the fruit machine currently is, that was a separate part of the pub before the fire, it was where the "snug" was.

Also the toilets, in reality would go straight into the Barlow’s kitchen, and in the corner shop the store room was much bigger in the 1980s than it is now

Glad to see they followed up on Kens lamb chops cliffhanger. For those of you who missed it, you'll be pleased to know that the chops ended up well done, but still edible.

That's a relief. Laughing

Was that tonight? Blimey, two days to cook a chop? No wonder it was well done.

LOL

Yes but he wasnt best pleased about Deirdre flirting with that builder Charlie, according to the TV Times next week Bev sleeps with Charlie, also Rita gets arrested for assult after Chesney is caught shoplifting, Cilla says she will drop the charages as long as Rita pays her £5000 Shocked
Its nice to see Rita get a storyline for a change.

Also, nice to see Samantha Giles (Bernice from Emmerdale) on the TV Times front cover, I cant wait for her to come back to Emmerdale as she was one of my fave's! She turns up a week on Friday!

Ah yes, you see those lamb chops were an important plot device, as was the obvious play on Charlies asbestos roof as pointed out by Andrew. Ken want's her to use her influence at the planning department, it's clearly paving the way for Deirdrie to have a torrid fling with Charlie.

Well im not sure if its Deirdre that Charlie has an affair with, next week he sleeps with Bev and its also been rumoured he sleeps with Shelly too. Meanwhile, tonight we learned that Charlie has 2 teenage kids and was married when he was 18.

It was great to see Sarah and Gail finally make up tonight, and then Tood proposes to Sarah. However Karl (Todd's boyfriend) is listed in the Radio Times so I think he appears next week.
