I might mix up another video using the animations I now have to make that half-hour 7 o'clock news programme on Sky Travel - only using the main news bed instead of the News Active one.

As interesting as this is, I do have some problems with it. The camera movements... These are not possible in real life, so thats that!

The studio is not bad, and that 3D figure, is a nice way to show the scale of the set, but the ident seems a little dark.

Hmm, well I can't disagree. The studio is OK for those kind of programmes, but the opening is dark. It's not as dark on the original but still the ident doesn't go with the studio.. but it wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened!

I wanted to make the spinning globe like it was when the logo used to zoom/blur in - it was very dark and reflective. I dont know why but I like that version better. It's very difficult to get the earth just right.

Those exact camera movements may not be possible in real life, but five news has done some nice movements in it's time so I think something like this may be possible. It's a bit difficult to judge how a camera can swing round in real life, I'd rather push it to the limits and use something different every time than settle for something 'normal'.

BTW the very last camera movement zooming round to the logo would be pre-recorded - the black screen would show the logo animating, and the copyright info would stamp on the screen at the sound of the last thud.


I've been working on this one in dribs and drabs for such a long time now I think it's time I moved on to another mock. I want another go at Sky News, only this time do something similar to the 97(?) look - the white one with the blue egg smoking in, but using the current logo.

the camera movement I was refering to is the one with the newsreader in the studio.

I think those camera movements are pretty "doable" in real life. If a jib camera was used I think they would certainly be done. I've actually seen stuff like that done on the Fox Report and on MSNBC and even WHDH - NBC Boston and FOX Miami. Takes practice its entirely doable.

It would be nice if the resident "mockers" could have a go at predicting what the new 2004 graphics will be like, based on the info suggested thus far - ie N24-beating *Breaking News* animation, smaller more 3D graphics in general etc.........

3D... wouldn't they be more like the mocks I done on page 19 then?

Well they certainly seem to fit the sparse "info" which is leaking out regarding the revised graphics....!

But I kinda get the feeling that Sky will maybe let N24 have the biggest "BREAKING NEWS" banner plastered across the screen, but I doubt that they will give up so easily on the actual "BREAKING NEWS" animation and sound effect.......! At the moment N24 has stolen the march on SN with the BREAKING NEWS globe animation - but I think Sky will pull something special out of the bag in time for the 17th......

Something new from me, a simple Sky One mock. Nothing special.

Sky One

Its as good as the current logos......which unfortunately means that I dont really like it ! Allthough as a mock its certainly an acceptable and workable extension of the current Sky One logos.
