The following question might be stupid, but I am still going to ask it, because I am a foreigner (what an excuse...).

Why does the BBC has news bulletins on BBC One if it has a news channel which broadcasts a full programme every hour?

And another question which just comes into my head: are the one, six, and ten o'clock news (on BBC One) simulcasted on News 24?

Because there are people in the uk, who still receive their TV from a TV aerial, there are only five channels that are receivable, BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, CH4, CH5, no News 24!

I can't even get five.

And if something does happen, you'll also be on here, more than likely saying that it's a disgrace, and why did they have to change it; the old style looks better; then offer a load of your own advice, and round we go again.....

Are we that predicable? We had several people stating a similar 'opinion' of what would happen come the News 24 relaunch. "Oh you'll hate it", "You'll say you preferred the old style and could do better". And did we? The mass majority of us were very happy with what happened with the relaunch. Same with the ITV1 Christmas idents. Again, all of us were impressed with the design of the Graphic ident.

Our nature is to offer criticism on what we see, whether that be a badly lit, tiny photo on a website or on a surround-sound widescreen TV. When it comes to a relaunch, we're more inclined to say "yeah, this is good but I don't like this or this" and give specifics. It's human nature. And we're all entitled to change our minds.

Hmm, currently a two-line story-reminder thing with "Egypt Plane Crash", but not in the BLOODY HUGE normal lettering. Did it not fit in, or is this a rethink..?

A mistake. TOG needs reseting

I don't think so - I've seen it happen quite a lot before when the headline just won't fit on in the " BLOODY HUGE " size. It looks like the size they've used is the biggest they could get away with to squash all the text on.

The size of the Headline text changes to fit in the red space. Shrinking back to normal size occasionally!

No it doesn't. There is a character limit, just like there's a limit on Ceefax headlines on page 101.

It does shrink down, usually when they have a reporter doing a live piece about the breaking news and they need extra space on the black bar.

It shrinks to a totally different size when a 2 line aston needs to go underneath, eg to name a reporter.

But Martin is talking about the BIG headline text changing size to accomodate a longer headline. This doesn't happen. The text producer has to work a headline to fit int he space available.

Yes it does happen, DOG. All the time. I suggest you look a little more carefully.

What happens... the BIG headline text does not change size, except when animating on to another aston.

Top line text will shrink to a certain extent, to fit into available space. The example above shows this. However the backing should always remain the same size and the aston should be the same height as the Tower.

There is a bug in TOG where the Top line shrinks to normal size and the Aston is two thirds as high as the Tower. This is what I presume the poster above was referring to. It means the size option on TOG needs resetting.

It happens in World as well, dig out your tapes of The World Today this morning

I've definitely seen it when the red bit is full height (two thirds of the whole aston) and the text is smaller than usual because the text wouldn't fit.
