Why was Breakfast coming from News 24 studio this morning?

Because they're still in Christmas schedules mode today.

I was actually quite surprised that Monday and Tuesday's Breakfast this week came from the normal studio and even was presented by the inferior first team. In my opinion it should have been Bill, Sian, Jules and all that lot

The next week should be good though (according to Radio Times at least). Simon McCoy is doing his first wekeend of Weekend 24/Breakfast with Jules, and it'll be interesting to see how he does (I don't know him from Sky News, so I'll be interested even to see who he is).

Then Bill & Natasha are on on Monday and Tuesday, Dermot's back with Kaplinsky on Wednesday and Thursday, then Bill & Sian are back together again on Friday (incidentally, wasn't it nice to see them back together on New Year's Eve for the first time in ages?). Bill's doing the Six on Thursday as well.

I wonder if this is the plan now Simon has arrived - less Dermot, more Bill, then Simon can do most of the weekends.

The ticker is a good idea, although maybe it should just be a red strap across with perhaps:

BREAKING NEWS : Something important has just happened and this is the story behind it ... press RED for more details.

Or maybe a little box peeking from top left with:

BREAKING NEWS
Something has just happened
PRESS RED FOR MORE DETAILS

Then on the News Interactive you can have a screen titled Breaking News, its description can be what the news is and it can loop with clips previous announcements by the presenters or maybe the News Headlines person reading out "News has broken in the past 1/2 hour that..." followed by any live interviews which have taken place and any news received read out or put on as text.

Obviously cable viewers would miss out (but they could just have a text service or BBC could get a move on and develop Multiscreen for cable) and the PRESS RED would have to be obscured for a while.

Just an idea...

But what's wrong with using what they've got already - the ticker!

And orange IS a colour of the channel (in the titles) with blue being the colour compliment of this as well as standing out and thus highlighting the information.

I wish they'd sort out the scrolling of the ticker though. It's irritatingly juddery. As is the NTSC/PAL conversion-style murky trails left by the headline straps when they resize.

How about programming your graphics system to refresh at 50Hz, guys, rather than 74Hz and doing temporal conversion on it?

Whoops - sorry - using analogue terminology - will confuse the current digital generation.

Has anyone noticed just a minute ago on the six news, the screens were all mixed up! The divider screen separating the left centerfrom the right center was repeted from Sian's side all the way to the tv screen on the right!

Is everyone on drugs?

What do these two posts mean?

Well, mine is very simple. Just saying about the different order of the screens behind the presenters on the 6 o'clock news from the BBC.

Here's what happened...

Not sure if its been talked about here, but i noticed during the sport on news24 today that they used the ticker with a yellow sport logo instead of the ususal orange box with a BBC Sport style yellow lie going up the tower / clock thing.. looks quite good - is it a new thing?

I'm not sure if we ever conclusively established that N24's new screens were in fact 'holoscreens', but someone did bring it up earlier once again when they mentioned that the screens aren't quite transparent, but rather moderately translucent.

I read through a press release from BBC Resources today about BBC Studios' upgrade of its green rooms and dressing rooms. According to the article, "the rooms feature the latest technology including Holo Screen TVs, plasma screens or LCD TVs in the rest areas"; this image accompanies the article:

Now, ignoring the fact that old-skool N24 is visible in that image (this is only because the work on the green rooms and dressing rooms was completed some weeks ago), the use of the holoscreens in TVC facilities makes it near as certain that the screens being used on the new N24 set are indeed holoscreens.

And believe me, now that I have that kind of closure, I'll finally be able to sleep at night.

Why? It's not as though BBC News 24 said: "Oooh, hang on, BBC Resources have put em in the dressing rooms. We need one on set". Here you have two completely and utterly different purposes that aren't related one bit.

The upgrade of the green rooms and dressing rooms was managed by BBC Studios.

I don't think it's entirely outrageous to suggest that the two are linked, especially when they were both upgraded at similar times. However, if you want to be difficult, try looking at the picture, and compare the screen showing old N24 with the screens on the new N24 set. They look remarkably similar. As the screen in the dressing room image is clearly neither a plasma TV nor an LCD TV, we must conclude that it is the only other type mentioned in the article, a 'Holo Screen TV'. Bearing this in mind, the visual similarities between what we know to be a 'Holo Screen TV' and the screens on the new N24 set must produce the conclusion that the latter are indeed holoscreens.

I'm not attempting to be difficult, nor am I disagreeing that News 24 use holoscreens. I am pointing out that an upgrade of BBC dressing rooms doesn't, to me, provide any evidence at all that News 24 have the same screens. I'm only suggesting that BBC dressing rooms have nothing to do with News 24. If the BBC canteen changed the design of their dining tables, the News 24 desk wouldn't change - perhaps this is a exaggerated example, but my point is that News 24's screens wouldn't be connected to dressing rooms, nor would there be any influence there. The press release only tells me that holoscreens exist within the BBC - but that wasn't up for debate anyway.
