The vast majority of CNN's output - everything from satellite links to graphics is all coming out of one main area, and is organised on one floor in one vast open space, rather than the Sky approach of organising things in lots of enclosed areas.

Who mentioned anything about CNN? By the way that isnt true...because if you watch NEXT@CNN they have an even larger news gathering area, than the one that appears on camera. Why dont you GIVE IT A REST. Why did you even give a comment? This is a presentation discussion site. Sets are a part of tv presentation. Sadly we cant all sit about and talk about your massive ego and seething jealously.

Massive ego i'll admit to, but "seething jealously" is somewhat puzzling.

The vast majority of the CNN US stuff is organised on the one open floor - the anchor desk itself is actually central to the newsgathering floor, there is a "newsroom" in front of it as well as behind. This, I imagine, is what you are seeing on the dreadful Next@CNN.

It just seems to me that in almost every post you attempt to link to a website of a dreary local American TV station, with no logical link to the issue in question at all. It's like "Yeah, Corrie was really good last night, but look at FOX 12 News in Winnahoota, it's just great".

MDTA: I think that the technology for the VR weather is actually in place now. There have been some "Virtual Mars" things done on Live at Five in preparation for the landing on Christmas Day. I assume these are coming from the same area as the weather.

@ Chiguy - Id just like to say "thanks" for posting the link. Ive read TV Forums for a long time (I had a break of about a year and had to re-register lol !) and I thought the Boston WFXT demonstrated what can be achieved with sufficient space and budget - lots of plasma screen, very modern look - but my only criticism might be that maybe its too flashy to translate to Sky News (it looks more like the set of a World Wrestling Entertainment show ie a bit brash and American !). Much much better than NY1 which I watched whilst in New York.

I do like the open plan idea, but as c@t pointed out, the space currently available to Sky News isnt really sufficient.....

Having said that I hooked my VCR up the other day and was watching my "Sky history" tape for a bit of nostalgia (basically about 3 hours of Sky logos, channel launches from the pre-multi channel era etc including the now incredibly dated "Welcome to Sky Television" ad and the "We Are The One !" ads !) and I was marvelling at the *TINY* set which Sky News used to broadcast from ! It just shows how much they have managed to expand and improve the on screen look in line with the increase in viewers and turnover.....so maybe there could be a chance of a big open plan set in the future !!

The team is really in the festive spirit. They are running a story on turkey's who are made to listen to music before they are killed and eaten. Keeping them calm apparently makes them more tastey!

SKYnews are taking requests on what music is best for them to listen to, so get e-mailing...

You cant help you're still wrong about CNN as well.
Rolling Eyes whatever!
Make a new years resolution to get some friends and a life as well. But for you that might be difficult since you are an evil person. AND "it seems to me that every post you make" you're rude and inconsiderate to everyone. And I'm sure most people would agree. AND furthermore I will continue to post whatever I feel that is related (no matter how remote) to the topic being discussed, unlike yourself and your personal attacks on people.

Yeah I think its that lighting rig over the news desk. But i think that was a cheaper alternative than having an actual soffit over the desk. I've seen that NY1 newsroom set. I dont like it either. They recently moved into that dedicated building on Chelsea piers. But at the end of the day they deserve credit of being one of the first local news channels in the US. I certainly think that LONDON deserves its own dedicated news channel.

No, the demand just isn't there for it. It would be a huge waste of money.

Well I dont think so. The reason there's no demand is because it doenst exist here in this country. But alas we are straying from the topic and we dont want some anal-retentive poster to remind us of that. I think SKYnews could have did a better job with the tree. Looks like they dragged it outta of a dusty cellar.

Well London has already had a news channel of sorts, called Channel One. It was unsuccessful.

It may have escaped your notice, but the UK is considerably smaller than the US, and so there just isn't a need for a London news channel. London's news is more than covered by both national and regional broadcasters.

No I am not wrong about CNN. Having actually been there, I think I'd know.

Grow up, little boy.

Shouldn't you be in bed, anyway? Santa will be coming soon. Don't forget the carrot.

Well, little girl, having worked at CNN Centre for 3years I think I know what I'm talking about. Taking a tour and working in the building are different things. Knowitall. And I'm sure you'd find a nice, comfy place to hide a carrot. Cool
Oh and dont choke on your xmas pudding. toodles
