why should it come from the studio, if the presenters, crews and everyone else involved are prepared to brave the cold and get out and meet our viewers, and put on a more interesting OB, why should we stay in the studio? i think if we'd done it from the studio more people would have said 'why didnt you do it outside?'

Well that is my opinion YTVsophie! I would of prefered the whole programme in the studio with both Christine and Duncan. I think it would of brought more warmth to the programme. What is the problem why can't they come together one night in the studio together?! Last year was good! Very Happy

Just watched "Calendar News", as it was branded today instead of "Calendar Lunchtime News" however Karen Petch did refer to it as the latter, and Karen was not in the main Studio. I don't think thats fair!

You know I must add to the debate of the 'calendar saga' I too watched the special on Monday. As a student journalist in training, I like to watch all the available news I can get.

But honestly what has it done to itself/ I know local news programmes should be 'local' but how much more local could you get than a 'regional news' program that was in a street in skipton with carol singers, singing it out - and the 'christmas lights' special. Talk about cheap, free electricity....

I really do not think this is anything but a pantomine program at best, ok some times it does 'provide' local news, but to what expense, dressing it's production up and having an amazing OB.

Regardless that it was Xmas, it's journalistic Integrity surly has to have been lost. I'm preerty sure that 'pulling out all the stops' is a good way of producing a good 'pan-regional news program' but not at the expense of it's credability and it's core news reports.

Which I hardly call an XMAS lights winner or all of the news presentation team stuck out on OB, I do not remember hardly anything that hit me as 'local news' more soft core news that was suitable for the American local networks.

Is it possible our ITV networks are going more down this avenue?

Might I direct you to BBC1 at 18:30 (Emley Moor or Belmont) to see if that's any better for you? Wink

glad everone enjoyed last nights OB. and you're right, theres no evening news tomorrow, just a short bulletin at lunchtime inside the national news. dont ask me why, too many crappy films on that we cant interrupt i guess!

That makes no sense. There are no films in the schedule anyway, and other regions have a normal bulletin. I really don't understand what they're playing at.

I think YTVsophie was talking about tommorow as in Christmas Eve there, as the last bulletin before christmas is at lunchtime.

Anyone see the 3pm bulletin today? Who presented it and did they mention the lack of bulletin tonight and the endcap no doubt said "Next Bulletin 10.50pm"?

The weather during Look North this morning was with a recorded Susan Powell. No I've never heard of her either!

Nicola Crompton, Andrew and the endcap did say "Calendar Late News 10:50pm".

Also Susan Powell usually does the weather of the Regions in the mornings, well apart from them who have there own weather forecaster i.e Look North and South East Today.

How did I know you'd be the first person to reply to my qoute.

By the way I do watch BBC News, but I also watch a variety of other 'news programs'.

Was my opinion stated, it's quite useful to look at Calendar to see and learn the mistakes what they make and make sure I don't actually do it my self!

I admire your intuitive abilities! I think that, Lord alone knows why, you might just be hearing from Square Eyes and YTVSophie about that too...

Tonight's Look North was presented entirely from the soft set and at the end a band came in and played some christmas carols. Paul must go straight from the Hull bulletin to the Leeds studio as he could be heard tripping up in the studio about a minute after he'd finished his banter with Peter.

Some brown buffets appeared at the side of the sofa and Paul and Ian White joined Harry and Christa for some mince pies and uncomfortable 'are we still on' lets look like we are enjoying the moment glasses of wine.

The Hull show seemed to be as normal. One thing I dislike about the Hull show is the Sports bit and the awful background they use for that bit, its very dull

He does - there's a weather screen in the self-opt studio which is immediately outside (well, a few seconds' walk down the corridor!) the main studio.

(showbiz mode) I nearly tripped over the cabling when I went round the Woodhouse Lane broadcast centre; there'll be an accident there one day....

I just wish he'd write his posts like the rest of the forumers seem to manage, why the larger font and the change of colour ?
