Right, 5 things need fixing as far as I can see. Can any of our resident BBC insiders let us know whether N24 knows about these, and when/if they are planning to fix them....

Arrow World spinning wrong way on clock/DOG
Arrow Clock/DOG covers the |B| of |B|B|C| Sport on sport slides
Arrow Audio buzz especially when using the sport/fact file area
Arrow Clock/DOG often stays on into weather - thought it turned itself off
Arrow Ticker is dead jumpy

BBC Sport slides will be fixed by the end of the week! OOps- that was a bit of a balls up wasn't it? The buzz is coming from the radio mics - sparks looking at it - Presenters have come off radio mics for the moment - back on hard wired mics.
DOG (or Tower - to give it it new title!) - Directors have to take an event in the automation before weather to take that off - people are getting used to it.
Pleased people like the new look - we are enjoying it here - glad you are as well at home! Its been hard work - but well worth it!! Very Happy

Well, there has been no such fuss about Five Live, psnowdon. The general consensus on the radio station is that it's one of the best things the BBC did in the 1990s.

You will always get viewers complaining about channels - that is just one of the hazards of the job - but I'm not sure how many objections you would get to News 24 making up its mind which direction it wants to go. Either it goes for the full integration approach: previewing and following up with debates what has happened on Newsnight (i.e. like Five Live); continuing debates after Question Times; previews of what's going to be on the One/Six/Ten O'clock News; Panorama follow-ups and so forth. If you like, bringing the best of the BBC News operation into one channel, rather than leaving it out of all the fun like it is now.

Or... make it independent. Spend more money on it - if the money is well spent, and the viewers know, it won't get complaints. Get it to do its own styles of Question Time, on a different day and in a different format so it doesn't get accusations of copying; its own style of Newsnight; it's own investigations like Panorama.

They're trying to sit in the middle, and I think most industry observers recognise this as the major issue. On this front, they just haven't made any progress.

I only spotted that their was the clash between the tower (sounds much better!) and the BBC Sport graphics, didn't notice the globe in the tower rotating the wrong way, which has now been changed.

The only other thing which is a bit dodgy is the quality of the projection screens, especially the two screens in the main area of the set, the screen in the stand up area isn't too bad. The pictures often look very transparent and washed out, mainly when something with a dark background i.e. an OB around this time of the day.

Other than that, as I have said before, fantastic improvement on the previous look, much better.

Screens are being worked on - they had been coated with an anti reflective material - which did affect the darker colours - rest assured its top of the list to try to sort! But I do have to say that the lighting is soo much better - all the presenters look FAB don't they!

Thanks very much Media Boy.

Doesn't Tower sound good!! Like it!!

What did you mean by "have to take an event in the automation" with regards to the tower clashing with the weather?

And what about the jerky ticker?

Hope I'm not coming across as moaning too much - loving the rest of it, well done to all concerned! Very Happy

I have to say that I really liked how News 24 covered Gordon Brown's Speech. I could watch the speech, be updated on Soham and see a summary of the points raised so far in the speech, have analysis from their correspondent during the speech by dipping in and out of live coverage, and be informed of various breaking news stories. Both ITV News and Sky seem to stick on coverage of such speeches and the presenters seem to go for lunch or something, much preferred News 24's style of dipping out of the speech for a minute to have some analysis and explanation of what was being said, along with the graphics keeping me up to date with everything else. And with News 24's greater focus on world news rather than celebrity news (!), I'm a very happy viewer, and I can't see me returning to Sky News any time soon...

The lighting rig in general is impressive given the low working height in the space, but the desk lighting is extremely flattering on everyone. Jane Hill looks pretty fab for the change, and she's not the only one. I suspect they're all wearing a bit more make up too.

From a cosmetic point of view the whole thing looks great.

At the risk of treading on Media Boy's toes (and getting it wrong), I assume that means that if the Director fails to execute a particular 'event' in the automation chain prior to the weather segment, then the auto-off feature doesn't enable? So human-error, as such.

Thats right.. if the director fails to take the event IMMEDIATLY prior to the weather - and jumps straight to the weather, from higher up in the running order, for example, which lots of us used to do in the 'old' 24 world - the Tower will not turn off - resulting in shouts of 'Tower Off!!!!' in the gallery - on which the text producer hits the emergency 'off' button!!

Has anyone been watching BBC World News at 1900 GMT tonight? The closing titles started after the David Jessel hat finished so it was possible to get the whole clean new closing titles. If anyone captured this could you please upload them?
