During breakfast both channels use Breakfast's own astons / graphics - they aren't like any other programmes - not even like the national.

Yeah, they were used this morning. Read Aston Title set to small with black two line bit saying who's on the phone. On the right hand side of the black space are the buttons of a mobile phone. The mobile itself isn't visible, just the buttons.

Thanks - so no spinning phone as before. Any captures anyone?

Another question... what's the text circling the world this morning and has the world started on anywhere else but the UK yet!!!?

I'm currently refraining from stating my overall opinion of the relaunch (how restrained Very Happy ), but I will say I was pleased to see the phone logo/strap incorporated into the main aston rather than stuck on top taking up more of the screen. Certainly better thought through than the previous look.

IIRC it was something like "Moscow Blast" ( Edit: was just "motorway toll" at 11), but the globe didn't seem to be showing Russia - it was pretty much in the middle of the Atlantic! The opening sequence was also very jerky at 9:00.

Good use of the (also very jerky) ticker just now, they have "coming up" under the clock with info about a forthcoming Nicholas van Hoogstraten statement - even if the ticker is very hard to read on my not-all-that-tiny TV!

There IS a spinning phone on one of the straps. I've seen it. It's an old style payphone in cream.

Here's my two cents on this relaunch...

Titles and Music - Not too bad, music's good.

Set - Looking good. It's brighter than the old one.

Astons - Great improvement from those chunky astons of old. Thank god they've scrapped Gill Sans.

Clock - Do not like it. The font on the clock doesn't match the graphics set. The logo looks really good.

Overall, the relaunch is fantastic, although there are bits to work on.

The great thing is that the graphics are much smaller than before even though the lettering is bigger.. I remember when the old set would cover peoples chins!

The orange and blue ticker colours arent completely random, they match the new map.. ie orange and baby blue sea.

Good to see that the really bright red is now only used during breaking news.. it was horrible in the past when all the astons were bright red. It makes me feel that at least for some items of this relaunch the BBC people have taken on board some of our past comments on here!

Is it me or is everything on set ever so slightly blurry!!!?

As if all the cameras have vaseline smeared all over them!

Almighty arse-up with the opening titles there, they froze after 3 seconds and we had two copies of the music playing about a few seconds apart. It only unfroze just before the end with the logo.

Maybe time to go back to pre-recorded titles..?

Well, the 12.00 TOTH was a complete mess - the opening titles completely stalled and two opening themes played over the top of each other.

Terrible - please BBC sort out these awful opening titles.

A more in depth analysis from me after seeing more of it.

Starting with the countdown... it's alright... but the text looks daft and is far too big. Also, for some reason the semi-transparent black bar at the bottom disappears towards the end and cuts very close to the numbers which looks a mess. The countdown is nowhere near as good as the old animated red one they used to have IMO.

The 'thunderclaps' which were so effective on the old look are now rubbish and tinny. The music is now equally tinny and uneffective. The guide on whether music is good is whether you want to turn it up - the Pop Idol opening theme is really good and makes me want to turn it up loud, as was the old BBC News 24 theme... this new one makes me want to turn it off.

The little flash of the BBC News logo inbetween the stories on the headlines doesn't work too well either - it's too busy and slow moving. The old flash was much nicer.

The beginning of the titles with the explosion (which looks so very much like the start of 7's "The One To Watch" promotion) is nice. The orange and black globe looks awful and resembles Mars more that the Earth. The cream and red version just worked better... and what the hell happens at the end of it? The numbers 24 just sort of get plonked on top. The logo itself is a right mess and wants redoing straight away. The swirly background circle thing with a globe is too complicated for a logo - and this shows, because they've not used it on the DOG.

Which brings me to my next point - the oversized DOG which is bigger than ITV News' and more annoying because it's animated too. I'm half expecting it to start rotating with the Union Jack on the other side of it - and the awful effect when the DOG appears... ugh!

...and what's with the enormous text on the straps? I can't see it lasting too long to be honest. As soon as they realise that the text is too big and they can only fit "BREAKI..." on the strap. The animations are also very distracting, why can't straps just fade in like they used to?!

I do, however, quite like the studio. They haven't gone for the "garish" and "unfinished" look of the news on BBC One which is nice. I don't like the contrast between the white studio and the black titles, so that's another negative point for me.

Also, the old man that they've had on is not very good at the whole 'stand in front of the screen' malarky, and running "Victory Parade" as their top story when nobody gave a **** about Rugby before we won is also annoying. Ruddy glory supporters. I don't like having the top story on the opening titles either. It looks tacky.

If I was in charge, somebody would be getting sacked at the moment.

"You iz watchin' BBC Fisha' Price 24 in da house, with noooz." - it won't be long...

Are we to expect some Christmas deco in the new set?
