I think its a classic example of a theme being jazzed up and the jazzier version never sounding as good as the original. It happens everywhere. GMTV last September for an example. The bit where the '24' animates and the music then cuts to a different type of BBC News sound seems to be there just because they can.
As I'm not usually a regular viewer of BBC News 24 I've been exposed to all this BBC World simulcast stuff for practically the first time and I liked the stings used on there, and I did like that World Newsroom, but now its gone and I'd only just noticed how good it was so the relaunch is a bit of an anticlimax for me, though I suppose this doesn't apply to BBC Brigade members!

My threppence.
It's awful and I'm going to keep it short and simple - the music isn't as hard hitting as the old theme. The straps are too big. The logo is a mess. The logo form-up in the opening title is a mess. The video screen is really washed out... and that awful, enormous DOG, and the way it animates on screen with the spinning sections effect... ugh..
