My threppence.

It's awful and I'm going to keep it short and simple - the music isn't as hard hitting as the old theme. The straps are too big. The logo is a mess. The logo form-up in the opening title is a mess. The video screen is really washed out... and that awful, enormous DOG, and the way it animates on screen with the spinning sections effect... ugh..

I think its a classic example of a theme being jazzed up and the jazzier version never sounding as good as the original. It happens everywhere. GMTV last September for an example. The bit where the '24' animates and the music then cuts to a different type of BBC News sound seems to be there just because they can.

As I'm not usually a regular viewer of BBC News 24 I've been exposed to all this BBC World simulcast stuff for practically the first time and I liked the stings used on there, and I did like that World Newsroom, but now its gone and I'd only just noticed how good it was so the relaunch is a bit of an anticlimax for me, though I suppose this doesn't apply to BBC Brigade members!

It was a mish-mash of the old music with the new countdown. A faux pas on the part of the BBC? Wink

Bit bizarre but nevertheless, here it is...

Yes, how bizzare! but a nice one to keep as it is such a patch-work quilt of old/new WORLD/24 etc ........ I bet that won't happen again !!!

Thanks for saving that for us BBC TVC.

Peter Dobbie often does a good sign-off ("that's all from the News 24 late team here at Television Centre in London" etc)

But I agree the BBC World reference is odd, of course

Would anyone mind if I gave my opinion after I've seen more of it? I don't think I've seen enough to provide informed judgement.....

Hi,

They have to leave some space for a news ticker.

In Canada, CBC Newsword shows BBC World at 3:30 pm PST (and other times). When you have a chance to watch this edition, CBC Newsworld runs its own news ticker (similar to the one at CNN) at the bottom of the screen.

So, BBC World have to leave a gap at the bottom for news tickers from other broadcasters.

I'm not sure if this have something to do with other broadcasters, since they can readjust the screen on their own.
BBC World is also on the astra satalite at 19.2 E. (Corrected)

You can recieve it with a normal sky box, all you need to do is to swing the dish 9 degrees west, and manually tune the box to 12285V.

May not be to popular with the rest of the family though.
What is the FEC and S/Rate?
(I still have my old analogue SKY dish up at the back pointing at 19.2E - against planning regs - but hey they can't see both at once!!! - so I should be able to tune into this with my Digibox ?)

The overnight strand is always produced by the World team

The overnights more often than not come from the N24 studio - and have done for years.

that isnt the first time Dobbie has mentioned BBC World from 1am. Even when he is on in other slots, he usually mentions who will be taking over the reigns from him!

Until N24 went onto the CSO set, it was hit or miss as to whether the simulcast would be in the N24 or World studio. It usually came from the N24 set, and we were occasionally treated to the World studio. Looks like we are back to using the N24 studio now to make the most of the revamp.

I do notice however, that the N24 DOG is present... is this going out on World aswell?
