Hello everybody,

Actually, I've got two questions:

1. What does DOG mean? I'm a foreigner, so I don't know (is that a good reason).

2. In some posts people give their opinion about BBC World. But, I thought BBC World is not te be received in the United Kingdom?

Thanks anyway, and NEWS 24 looks great! Wish we had something like that over here in The Netherlands...

1. Digital Onscreen Graphic

2. Correct, BBC World is not to be received, though people can get a good idea of the style in The World Today, shown as part of BBC World/News 24's overnight simulcast. And the idents/presentation can be seen here of course.
It's also possible to recieve BBC World if you use an old Satellite Reciever and point it to Hotbird.

BBC World is also on the astra satalite at 19.2 E. (Corrected)

You can recieve it with a normal sky box, all you need to do is to swing the dish 9 degrees west, and manually tune the box to 12285V.

May not be to popular with the rest of the family though.

CNN and sky News are also on this satalite

Hello,

does anyone have the ending for the BBC World where the "globe" DOG dissapears at the end of the news? and the breaking news too, somehow it doesn't work on my RP8.

Yep - here you go! I captured this a little earlier when Keshini Navaratnam was presenting.

Few Questions:

1. Does anyone know why didn't BBC World newsroom gets revamped? Or that's the next project for them to do it?

2. Also, wouldn't it be better if the "GMT Time" replacing the "bbcnews.com"?

3. I felt distracted when watching the DOG hanging in the middle, especially it looks bigger than ever. Why not lower the DOG to the bottom of the screen? I think it would be more "comfortable to watch" it.

4. Why the big thick ARIAL font? It doesn't look "BBC" to me.

It's not considered to be a priority job at the moment.

But people are watching in all different time zones - too confusing.

You'd end up dropping it out of the 4:3 safe zone if it went much lower. Plus its position has been planned to line up with the astons, which N24 obviously wanted to avoid dragging at the bottom like the last set.

I thought GMT+0/-0 is pretty standard... Confused

Part of the problem is that the World newsroom is actually a real newsroom (and indeed that is all of the World Newsroom) not a set in a large open plan area. There's not much they can change within the confines of those 4 walls

Because it would be totally useless.
Although they could try what Fox does and alternate between diffrent timezones, but that would be complex as there are 24 timezones and none of them are called anything

It is unless someones created a new time system. But it might get confusing keep haveing to add or take away form gmt to work out the current time...

You could have different time zones rotating (bottom to top) with the time zone code next to them
i.e. 16:00 PST... 19:00 EST... 0:00 GMT... 01:00 CET... 08:00 HKST... *
...whatever timezones they currently put on the breakfiller.

* don't moan if these are wrong!

CNN US did this ET/PT/MT/CT swap every few seconds, thought it might work? Probably too confusing, since there's 24 time zones, lol.

My brain hurts!

Of all the days to be out of the office... get home and wade through 46 pages of comment, criticism, discussion and argument.

Hmmm.....

Love the new studio - it just brightens the whole place up

TOTH... well, could do with being a bit faster, especially on the titles but I guess that's a problem doing it live all the time - makes it more difficult to fade between shots.

Also, they might just want to invest in a faster computer.... then it might not judder so frequently during the opening animation! Laughing

The idea of the 'fact file' is good... but a) please don't repeat it ALL evening and b) try to do a recording without dodgy sound quality

As for the presenter interaction and style.... lets give them a normal news day to try that out on first.

My threppence.

It's awful and I'm going to keep it short and simple - the music isn't as hard hitting as the old theme. The straps are too big. The logo is a mess. The logo form-up in the opening title is a mess. The video screen is really washed out... and that awful, enormous DOG, and the way it animates on screen with the spinning sections effect... ugh.

I've disliked all of the BBC News revamps recently - the studios with their "We didn't have enough money to buy carpet, so we sanded the floorboards" effect is dreadful too.

A big thumbs down for me. News seems to be becoming naff. This "FOX NEWS" style effort from the BBC, five's Orchestral Orgasm (which isn't sounding any better...)

I only hope the ITV News relaunch next year is better...
