Michael Buerk on the One O'clock News today! Razz

Darn, I didn't see it. Mr Buerk is certainly getting about a bit!

How can you didn't see it. The Ten o'clock news haven't already started.

Sorry that maybe the case skynewsfreak. But Madame Raworth telling us about a serious political story and then the more heavyweight Bill / Jon telling us about rubber ducks or someting pointless. It should be done on experience, style and who seems to be the best, not just Madame Raworth because shes usually the next in line.

This point was yet again proved today - while Sophie got the bombings in Baghdad, and got to interview Orla Guerin and Matt Frei, Bill ended up with a story about tigers. It's all wrong - he's an experienced journalist and a very good newsreader. He must feel mighty angry being sidelined like this.

Sophie never used to be main presenter on Breakfast if Jeremy or Dermot was off, so I suspect it is the editor of the Six O Clock News, who I believe is a woman, who has put this policy down that Sophie is lead anchor if George is off.

That sounds like quite a plausible explanation, and don't get me wrong, I think Sophie is very talented. It just infuriates me that no thought seems to go into which newsreader might be better at bringing us a particular "type" of news - i.e. the more "heavyweight" newscaster should bring us the most important news, simply because they have more gravity to do it.

Does anyone know who read the ITV News today. I know Suchet is on tonight but was wondering if Andrew Harvey did the daytime?

Michael Buerk's doing the 1:00 news again today - well, at least he just did the 11:00 summary. Perhaps it's regular Wednesday thing for him now.
