Sky News gets a new shorter text number from Monday. Could this also be to coincide with new graphics?

Oh yes, what an *obvious* link. Having a shorter number will force them to redesign everything. Rolling Eyes

Shut-up you twit. Don't you have a cineama to manage? We know new graphics are on the way, and in my opinion it would make sense that if I new number was to be given for text etc, I would coincide this with the new graphics.

Well in all honesty I would've done it with the music too but that hasn't happened.

Well to be quite honest Rod, you do get excited about the most miniscule of things and read something into everything. I hear Kay Burley will be wearing a new frock on Monday, do you think this could be because there will be a new set, and her old frocks will clash ? Laughing

Well I must admit it crossed my mind too when Kay mentioned it. Also Chris's little raised eyebrow and "Mmm...".

I nearly posted myself, but decided to hold myself back Surprised

Kay really was very excited about announcing that they'll have a shorter number on Monday. No doubt something like 81501 - if they've got any sense (or choice!) at least.

Despite this music change (am I the only one who actually LOVES the new music?) - aren't changes to AT LEAST some of the formats of shows up for change? Like introducing the highly successful Sky News Today format into the evening?

One thing that needs to be looked at on Sky News is the use of the ticker. At the moment it is on from 10am-7pm. I think it should be on all the time (except perhaps overnight where they probably won't have the resources, or they could have a system like News 24's ticker where it pulls the content from another source i.e. News Online, Sky could pull their's from Active).

If not all the time, then they should have it on for Sunrise at least, at that is where it would most benefit to allow people to get a look at the headlines quicker rather than fire up Active (of course Cable and Freeview don't have Active...).

It should also be on during Littlejohn, Sunday, and other special programmes so people can look at the headlines when these programmes are on (although I suspect that this might be possible as for these programmes TX cut to Sky News Millbank gallery instead of Sky News Osterley gallery, and the ticker is driven from the Osterley gallery).

You're not alone- Ison- I wasn't sure at 1st- but I reckon this music fits the existing titles better than the previous incarnation.
I absolutely LOVE it! Very orchestral, very dramatic, very now, very Sky.

Given that Kay gets excited at just about anything, perhaps we shouldn't read too much into a new text number! Besides, there was all this expectation in September; October arrived and all we got was a new theme tune and some headline beds.

I can live with the title music, but they need to get rid of that new business one ASAP - awful.

Has the video wall packed in again? They are using the angles normally seen on the overnight shifts even for shots where Viv and David are in view at the same time

Yes the new business music is very poor - considering the fact that they are now using it instead of that wonderful fanfare that now ends the hour on Sky News Today (when they can find enough time!) - I think they should bring that back...would make a great TOTH bed too!

I breifly caught that end of the hour fanfare music a couple of days ago and thought it was excellent. I too love the new Sky News music - it adds some gravitas and much needed authority into the channel.

But why is orchestral music making such a comeback? Five News, Sky News etc.? I remember some BBC employee saying that the 1993-1999 BBC National News music was 'pompous and out of touch. Again I disagree, and point out that orchestral music has never been pompous, and that the old BBC News music would not seem out of place today.

No sh!t sherlock!

Sorry, but it's pretty obvious that Littlejohn is testing the water for more. It's regression if you ask me.

Any more info? Didn't you they say they'd purchased some VR machines or something for the weather? Confused
