That's very telling of his attitude, and frankly a massive insult to the many other people who work on the programme (and had done for over a year longer than him in many cases, no less!)
You are right, his ego shone through there in that final sentence he made before leaving. He really felt GMB was his show. The arrogance is breathtaking but not surprising, as Ian Hislop used to say about Piers, his ego was enormous. He said he had a very thin skin, and added it was the only thing thin about Piers.
Piers felt GMB was "his show" - he said so I believe when the stormed off the set. That was a problem, him thinking it was The Piers Morgan Breakfast Show.
