Another thing about the 1998 titles is they were actually used for longer cropped to 16:9 than they were in their original 4:3.

I don't recall them using that end-of-part one theme before. I assume it was short lived. When did the change into this theme (starting at 0:31 if it doesn't automatically start)

Oh my, I can remember the TV forum post about that break sting back in the day

Looks like whoever uploaded that video bought Network's "Soap Box Volume 1" Boxset. Sadly they never released a volume 2!

Not that long before the time of that clip, around 2005 IIRC. This end of part one/part two theme was used for some time after 1998.

The opening title sequence changed again in 2005 (using the same music). Perhaps the break stings change at the same time?

It does feel like quite a jarring change to the theme tune, from a simple piano version to a grand orchestral one.

I remember seeing this Xmas episode in 1997 when I was 11. Makes me feel so old! Feels like yesterday.
The piano theme was sounding a bit dated by then.

It's 1998, not 1997.

Oh yes! I getting confused with Coronation Street, which is showing Xmas 97 soon. Smile

There was a proper extended version theme tune at the end of today's (hour long) episode, whereas with the 1994 theme whenever there was an hour long episode with extended credits, they just looped the usual short credit theme (badly).

And in a different key too. Wink

But it's far, far better than the synthesised version that's been used for ten years now.

According to someone on the Digital Spy forums a few years back (before they went to brown stuff), Tony Hatch said that he preferred the orchestral version to his original. If that is indeed true, fair to say there's no greater endorsement.

The break bumper theme changed in November 2004 according to the Emmerdale Wiki (so the piano version was used with the 1998 bumpers for ten months, assuming this date and others are correct).

I thought it was an odd change then (since everything else stayed the same) and still do now, though I'm sure there was a very good reason for it.
