Precisely. Besides, it's going to take a while to set everything up, and get it the way I want it. April 1st is the logical date.
To answer any questions that people may have, I'll be doing a live-chat on the TV Live YouTube channel on Saturday afternoon at 2pm UK time. It'll be a chance for you to ask me about the new forum and what I have planned.

He doesn't want to compete, he just wants to give us a place to migrate to.

Thanks a lot for doing this Rob, I know it can’t be easy but it is greatly appreciated.

I'm sure you know by now, because you posted there, but for anyone else confused that's what the "and finally" thread is all about.

Yeah. It just seems so unexpected. But we shouldn't dictate how Asa spends his free time. And I'm sure Rob will do an excellent job.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I'm well aware of what I'm letting myself in for, and I'm looking forward to stepping up to the challenge and running this new forum.
I thought I'd just post some information about what to expect from the new forum so that you're aware of what I have planned.
Please don't expect the new forum to look like TV Forum. Asa has done an amazing job with coding this site over the years, but I just don't have that knowledge to be able to replicate his site.
I aim to carry most of TV Forum's features over to the new forum, but some things may not be possible. You'll be able to give thanks for posts as before, and there will hopefully be an events calendar and a Gallery section for your creations.
With regards to how the forum will be run, the forum will operate under the same guidelines that TVF use at the moment to ensure continuity, but there will be a few small changes.
The forum boards will be the same as TV Forum, but I'm going to be changing the way the Requests forum is accessed to stop new members registering JUST to use that board.
Also, you'll be able to upload attachments to the forum directly. The new forum has unlimited hosting, so hosting of images and videos (within reason) will be easier than ever!
I will be making a final choice on my moderation team in the coming days. There will be 2 moderators in addition to myself, and they will be people I've trusted and respected for many years.
Those of you who know me will know that I have a tendency to change things. A lot. Please be assured that, although there may be a few minor tweaks here and there after the launch, the site design will remain untouched!
The new forum is scheduled to open on the morning of April 1st. I look forward to seeing you then. In the meantime, keep up to date with progress on Twitter and Facebook.

Rob, I wonder if there is anything you could put in place in conjunction with Asa to allow people to pre-register with their TVF username to avoid the inevitable idiots who will think it's funny to sign up with a well established name, either to block the existing user from using it or to trash their reputation by trolling the new forum?
Obviously Asa couldn't just give you a list of usernames and email addresses due to GDPR but perhaps some mechanism similar to the one that was used to optionally create a Metropol account as part of TVF sign up could be put in place?
