I'm sure at one time the research was that BS was less offensive than omitting the B.
Presumably because it limits it to the context of a synonym for nonsense/rubbish etc
It was seen a lot pre watershed on news channels with actuality of crowds of Trump supporters with "no more bull****” flags.

I'm surprised how often swear words go unnoticed on Gold in the middle of the afternoon. In fact I'm pretty sure I saw Gavin and Stacey go out on Dave at around 2pm one day and Larry Lamb's line "s**t a brick" was completely intact.
Finally someone said about it, I saw it and I was confused as it was like 3pm...
Last week, Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly on Channel 5 included the s-word twice, before 9pm. Nowhere seems to have picked up on it, apart from a few on Twitter.

It is all about context though - most swearing isn't actually outright banned before the watershed as long as it isn't used in an explicit manner.

"Protection of children" is a key phrase which is probably Ofcom code for if you must swear before 9pm, don't do it when children are likely to be watching. The examples above of Gold are channels aimed at adult viewers, they're not children's channels so they can probably get away with slightly more. Although in fairness such is life these days there's probably nothing on the TV language wise they haven't already heard in school.

... or at least in front of Zoom watching a teacher giving a lesson from their own living room!
Anyway, is swearing at 2pm really a problem? Kids shouldn't be watching TV at that time of day anyway, as they should be in the classroom.

By the same logic let's broadcast hardcore pornography between 9am and 3pm, shall we?

In all fairness, I don't think that any young children will be watching Dave at 2pm. I think they were probably just hoping it would go unnoticed by adult watchers who don't really mind a small bit of swearing such as that.

Fair point, but that should no longer be a thing after this week. Schools reopen on Monday, right?

Only in England. Wales and Scotland are phasing their returns much more gradually over the next month.
