Just under two weeks ago, I wrote about the Earthquake Early Warning system in Japan. At the time, I shared pretty much everything that I knew. But as it turns out, there's more. Much like how UK broadcasters and practice runs for royal deaths, Japanese broadcasters have practice runs for major natural disasters. Nippon TV decided to share some footage from their run through on the 9th February 2018.

The lunchtime news in France experienced some problems last week, though still made it on air with a very polite apology:
Can read a dramatised version of what happened in the Express... https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1402091/France-news-France-TF1-technical-blunder-moment-Marie-Sophie-Lacarrau-vn
...or find out actually what happened in French newspaper La FIgaro https://tvmag.lefigaro.fr/programme-tv/panne-au-13-heures-de-tf1-les-vraies-raisons-du-bug-technique-revelees_0c07f986-7695-11eb-9ea8-48b0d7a02ee9/
Like many broadcast journalists I have far too many anxiety dreams about equipment going wrong during a live programme.

So imagine *all* your equipment failing. All of it.
And having to tell the audience of France’s most watched lunchtime news that there won’t be any news 😮 pic.twitter.com/f4yhjxk1tG

LCI also had issues as they share the same system as TF1.

Strange that they didn't just simulcast the 1 p.m. news (or rather the second hour of
LCI Midi)
of their co-owned news channel LCI.

Weird name, weirder logo.
It says on Wiki that it's been going since 2016. I've never heard of it.

There are also rules against live TV simulcasts in France; they can transmit France 2's 8PM news on France Info an hour later, but not at the same time. Apparently though, they can transmit something on TV and radio simultaneously. France Info's short summaries are done this way. It's interesting that TF1 didn't even improvise a quick summary.

Indeed this channel is from India
WION appears to be news in English from a South Asian perspective.

They got away with simulcasting quite extensively during the initial Covid lockdown so I'd assume that they'd have been able to make the case that it was necessary.
