I still find it utterly incredible that despite the ancient Greeks and Romans realising that asbestos causes fatal lung problems, it took until 2000 for it to be banned in the UK... and indeed it’s still widely used in many other countries around the world.
Asbestos on its own isn't a problem, its when it gets disturbed you have a problem. Artex ceilings aren't the only places potentially holding asbestos. Toilets, pipework, tiles, external drainpipes, insulation boards, water tanks (if in place and haven't been replaced by a boiler)... the older things like this are the more likely it contains asbestos. If you don't disturb it it's fine. On the positive side its heat resistant, but most buildings built before 1980 will almost certainly contain it somewhere as it was a key part of building construction.

Yes. I bought a 1962 built bungalow and refurbished it. The water tank was made of asbestos, as were the soil pipes, and the sofits. Cost me 500 quid to get rid of it all properly and legally
Here's the proposal for what might replace the studios.
This lumpen chunk is proposed for the Southbank. Even the previous housing provision has been removed. Where does the fault lie here? Is it the architects ("Make") or developers (Mitsubishi Estate + CO-RE)? I try to be positive on Twitter but this is just *throws papers in air* https://t.co/uqhMHUAi8E

Correction ' That will be an eye sore'.
At the moment it only exists as a photoshop/lightbox rendered mock.
It's got to get past the planning bods of Southwark Council, first. I don't mind it that much. I'd like it even more if the front 12 floor block contained a couple of 4,000 - 5,000 sq feet studios(!) but that's not going to happen.
But, I'd be questioning why, right now, you'd want to put another 25 floors of office space on the Southbank? Isn't the current pandemic going to cut down office use by at least 25% even when things get back to 'the new normal'

Well if the office and retail spaces don't get taken up I suppose they'd have to very reluctantly apply for a change of use - to residential.
I know nothing about planning processes, but you have to wonder if they've been knocked back at every attempt of just getting a logo on the old building then how will that get through...
Posting this here in case anyone wants to see it - it's a 360 virtual tour of two floors + the lobby of TLS (only office spaces though, and it's after ITV gutted the place of their stuff.
