A bit late to the game here, but I really am shocked at Brooke's announcement. I was convinced it was Kate Bolduan that was to get the boot that was until they utilised her extensively throughout the election and took Baldwin off air completely. Baldwin may well have peeved Zucker off when she openly told her audience it wasn't her choice she was going off air.

Whatever the reasons I am truly gutted she's leaving CNN. She's was a staple part of my daytime viewing before I moved to NYC in 2012 and back to the Uk 2019. She's up there as one of the best at CNN at handling hard Breaking News (shootings, bombings, disasters and so on and was always part of the overseas anchor team when covering such stories.

It's a weird one that Victor Blackwell is to become a co-anchor of a two hour daytime show with Alisyn Camerota and even weirder is that Ana Cabrera is getting a bump to daytime. Would this indicate that Blackwell is preparing and move from Atlanta to NYC to accommodate his new role.

I read somewhere that Scuitto used to commute (Acela Express 2.30 hours) from DC to NYC to anchor Newsroom with Harlow, and then anchored from DC on Fridays. A daily commute from Atlanta to NYC just doesn't seem feasible.

Bianna Golodryga has been getting a lot of anchor time covering holidays etc, and she is very good so I fully expect her to get a slot at the weekend, perhaps replacing Cabrera's.

I really hope Cristi Paul isn't ousted from New Day Weekend, but as as to who might replace Blackwell - I'm out of ideas. Acosta wouldn't take an early morning show unless Zucker's game plan is to add weight to mornings which would explain Keilar's move.

headliner101's comment that the move of Camerota is a demotion is completely wrong. Cuomo went from New Day straight to Prime Time and is now the most watched show on the network. I wouldn't read anything into her being demoted. If anything - Zucker sees New Day as a springboard to better things.

As mentioned, programming is shifting away from Atlanta. Massive investment at Hudson Yards and in London as well as new studios in DC back up this claim.

It's like a Game Of Anchors, not Thrones.

On the Camerota point, there’s a difference between Cuomo who moved to bang in the middle of primetime and Camerota who presumably will be in one of the afternoon slots vacated by Baldwin or Keilar which isn’t one of the main slots.

However, give me Camerota anchoring over Chris Cuomo’s egotistical presenting any day. I wonder if Chris had his brother on recently to ask him tough questions about the nursing home controversy or is he only allowed on for the Cuomo comedy hour where they bring out giant comedy earbuds and bicker over which one mom likes more.

Agree with you on Camerota over Cuomo - can't stomach his macho style of anchoring. But I think Zucker's ultimate gameplay is to use the recent success of the network and strengthen it further. Getting rid of Baldwin who is very popular with viewers as well as staffers was IMO the wrong move.

Something MUST have happened. I do not get the impression she really wants to leave but rather was let go.

Yes, many members on here have commented on it. She lost an hour after recovering from Covid and the network were already in full Election mode with Keilar haven taken her hour. Baldwin then said something on social media to the effect of 'it wasn't my choice' which would have ruffled my feathers if I'd been her boss, but she was only speaking the truth. She was them totally exempt from any part in the election coverage when the likes of Kate Bolduan, Ana Cabrera and Erica Hill were all on election assignment. I can only reach the conclusion Zucker either offered her another position on the network which she didn't find desirable or she was told to leave. Pure speculation of course.

Has to be said the optics of getting rid of someone who has been at CNN for years and was seriously ill recently with COVID are not great for CNN.

Of course he hasn't. Rolling Eyes

Here's a great article about he hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo's sudden silence.

Now that article gives the story some context. I hadn't realised CNN hadn't allowed Chris to interview Andrew before 2020. I guess they've made a rod for their own back now by having him on several times last year and now saying they've reverted back to the rules.

Quote:
Today, CNN announced changes to its weekday morning and dayside lineup, with new assignments for Victor Blackwell, Ana Cabrera, Alisyn Camerota and Brianna Keilar. In addition, the network announced new roles for Jim Acosta and Boris Sanchez on weekends. These changes will be effective in April.

Laura Jarrett and Christine Romans will continue to anchor Early Start from 5-6 am.

John Berman and Brianna Keilar will anchor New Day from 6-9 am, weekdays. Keilar most recently anchored CNN Right Now from 1-3pm weekdays. Prior to that, she was CNN’s White House correspondent during the Obama Administration. Berman has been co-anchor of New Day for the last two and a half years.

Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto will continue to anchor CNN Newsroom from 9-11 am.

Kate Bolduan will continue to anchor At this Hour from 11am-noon.

John King will continue to anchor Inside Politics with John King weekdays from noon-1pm. The network’s chief national correspondent, he will also continue to have a key role in all political coverage.

Ana Cabrera, who has anchored CNN’s weekend newscasts for the last four years, will now anchor CNN Newsroom weekdays from 1-2 pm.

Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell will now anchor CNN’s afternoon Newsroom coverage from 2-4 pm. Camerota has anchored CNN’s morning program, New Day, for the last six years, the longest tenure of any weekday morning show anchor in recent CNN history, and, along with Berman, has led CNN to its largest audiences ever in the morning. Blackwell has anchored CNN’s Weekend New Day for the last nine years.

With the move of Cabrera and Blackwell to CNN’s weekday lineup, CNN also finalized its new weekend lineup:

Boris Sanchez will join Christi Paul as co-anchor of Weekend New Day on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sanchez previously served as a CNN White House correspondent.

Fredricka Whitfield will continue to anchor CNN Newsroom’s midday coverage on Saturdays and Sundays.

Jim Acosta will anchor CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 3-6pm. As previously announced, Acosta has also been named the network’s chief domestic correspondent. Prior to this new role, he covered the White House for CNN for the past seven years, having served as Chief White House Correspondent since 2018.

As previously announced, Pamela Brown now anchors CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-9pm. She also serves as Senior Washington correspondent for CNN.

No details on locations for the programming so either still to be confirmed or possibly staying put.

Boris Sanchez is currently based in Washington.

So now speculation about who gets whom becomes moot as CNN has given us the official roster for NY and ATL. Now all that's left to hear about is CNNI/London. I think the only thing London lacks is a dedicated office room for the CNNI head.

But isn't the afternoon slot lower in the pecking order than the 'primetime morning' (6-9 ET) slot because most of us here think it is?

CC shouldn't have interviewed AC in the first place. FULL STOP. FWIW, I am also uncomfortable when I see George Stephanopolous interview one of the Clintons.
