Perhaps just me, but the explosion ident and music used on Channel 4 closedown mostly, takes me back to July 1995 and the night my Aunt died unexpectedly and being awake in the middle of the night awaiting relatives coming from London to Devon. Still even today makes me cry that ident.
Guess that's the mark of a good ident package. Emotion, memories etc
7pm clock into the news as normal. I presume Channel 4 don't have the technology to render a real-time clock but I don't want to ask too much.
It looked utter crap. Grey background, and faux noise added. The quality of 80s PAL analogue was excellent, way better than whoever thought degrading the quality would be a good idea.

I think you're missing the point. It's meant to look old.
What a SHAME that horrible “Drama on 4” promo ruined the perfect 80s ident setup into
It’s a Sin
. They’ve gone to all that trouble today only for that to break the mood at the main moment.
I’ll be disappointed if the ad-break for this isn’t a Follows Shortly slide with Fourscore playing over the top.
Yes, it would be nostalgic to see a brief shot of a “follows shortly” caption. Of course, there’s no way it would replace commercials, but it would be a nice touch to flash it on the screen for a few seconds before rejoining the programme.
Spot on. The 80s C4 anno scripting style seemed much longer & looser. I've been aiming for something that's (hopefully) more generally "80s" sounding than specifically "C4 80s" sounding. Aside from anything else as our idents tonight are much shorter than they were then!
