That's a tenner I'm not getting back.
No surprise there, Oneness is back then. Granted, at least it was the lockdown idents.

The "lockdown" style Oneness idents are easily the lesser of two evils, to my taste. I am therefore pleased that at least the pre-lockdown "groups of people gawping at the camera" abominations haven't returned. If they *ever* do, then the decision makers at Auntie Beeb should be immediately executed.
I don't mind the actual word "Oneness" as a slogan for the channel, it (like anything else) just needs to be attached to decent idents. It beggars belief that the permenant/regular idents introduced in January 2017 were such as massive step down from the initial Oneness idents of Christmas 2016. What's been used each Christmas ever since has also generally been significantly better than the year-round versions (not that that's saying much).
The fundamental UGC concept of the current style is actually okay in my opinion, and has potential to be retained and refined post-pandemic. As our freedoms gradually return, idents featuring viewers' videos of activities well beyond the confines of their homes and gardens could be created.
The main refinement that is needed is to the plain black background. Either replace it with something along the lines of the red textured background seen on menus and trailer endboards, or arrange the collage of videos using different sized/shaped images that collectively fill the entire screen space leaving no background/gaps at all.
Maybe also think about the size and positioning of the "BBC One" logo. Should it remain centre-bottom, or be moved to the very centre of the screen, for example? In either case, think about its positioning in relation to the activities happening in the collage of videos. Participants in the videos could, for example, be "interacting" with (or at least looking at) where the slapped-on logo will be placed.

Strangely, when I was much younger I always used to assume, with no basis whatsoever, that the BBC1 globe would change on 1st January. So every New Year's Day I would put the television on hoping there would be a new version of the globe, only to find that the old mirror globe WAS STILL THERE!! Up until 1985 that is, when I only had to wait another month-and-a-half...

I'm still early into reviewing all the junctions from last night as part of my yearly feature for the site so I'm sure there'll be more crops up. But while the other nations had fairly normal junctions into the 9pm live show last night, BBC One Northern Ireland continuity put out a touching extended message - so long it wouldn't quite fit the 30 seconds ident length, so had to span both a sting and an ident!
