Former Tyne Tees continuity announcer Bill Steel was in today's first ITV3 episode!

If todayโ€™s ITV3 episode is anything to go by, the Compare The Market sponsorship has ended, as there was no sponsor today.

Also worth noting that BritBox has added a number of Christmas episodes of Corrie today too. I note that the Christmas 1985 episode theyโ€™ve added is a Granada Plus edit.

These Granada Plus edits are an irritation! We even got some from 1994 on ITV3 that never got shown on Granada Plus.

Yes no Meerkatโ€™s on tonightโ€™s epsiodes.

We also are having warnings of scenes that some viewers may find upsetting, not just at the start, but also into part two.

Not unusual to have a gap between sponsors, and given tonights episode probably wise not to have a sponsor, even if they were not changing.

Mentioned here already. ITV have an new sponsor in place already (according to a mysterious insider on this forum) and have seemingly deliberately left a period between the expiry of the old contract and the beginning of the new one.

BBC News - Coronation Street: Pandemic sees soap scrap 60th anniversary stunt

I'm hoping that Corrie bosses scale back a bit on the more dramatic storylines for next year, and a lot less of the more upsetting stuff like last night ... that was very difficult to watch. And the scenes in the pub with Johnny, Jenny and her stepdaughter, were supposedly meant to lighten the mood, but just felt very awkward among the other highly emotional scenes about Oliver.

Seems a global pandemic for the 60th was rejected two years ago as being unrealistic.
Quote:
The producer also revealed that the show's bosses had rejected an idea for a global pandemic storyline for the anniversary before coronavirus began because they thought it was too far-fetched.

"About a year ago, when we were talking about what we would do for our 60th anniversary, two of our writers pitched a storyline for a global pandemic, would you believe?" MacLeod said.

"It originated in Tyrone's pigeon loft - he'd taken up pigeon racing in homage to Jack [Duckworth], and it came in as some form of bird flu and spread round the street.

"The consensus in the writing room was, 'No, it's just far too far-fetched, no-one's going to buy that'. Fast forward to now and it all looks horribly prescient."
