Coco is a fantastic family film, if a little unseasonal - it's based around the Day of the Dead, which is November 1st. I'd hazard a guess the rights deal which meant BBC One was a bit of a Disney film fest last Christmas is a multi-year one and we'll see a few more getting an outing over the week.
That doesn't surprise me. I knew Big Show couldn't happen, and Wheel is it's replacement with the same presenter. I assume Doctor Who will be on New Year's Day like it has been for the last couple of years?
I am slightly surprised they’re not bothering with Big Show this year, I would have thought a lot of the features could work just as well or be adapted for a studio with no audience. You’d think if they tried, they would do a much better job than the Peter Crouch from the summer at least.

I assume they considered it but it's a show that needs an audience, it would feel a bit flat without one. The Wheel is a good enough replacement.

Well no audience means no audience surprises. The restrictions mean no chance of an Unexpected Star surprise. Send to All would be easier but what topics would work at the moment?
Probably better to try something new and effectively designed for the current restrictions rather than try and bodge a previous format.
Certainly doesn’t harm trying Michael out on a new format though. Giving Big Show a rest for a year could mean it comes back fresher in a year or 2 (a la Saturday Night Takeaway).
BBC One is looking pretty standard for Christmas afternoon. I’ve always wondered why they don’t try other comedy (they’ve got Not Going Out, even family friendly Goes Wrong Show) out on the day itself.

The Goes Wrong Show hasn't done well enough to earn a Christmas Day slot, likewise NGO.
Not Going Out has certainly done well enough being in it's 73rd series and having aired on Christmas Eve multiple times. However the special is New Year themed this year so likely to air a week later.
I think The Goes Wrong Show is brilliant but not strong enough for Christmas Day, and probably the same for Ghosts too. But then neither is Mrs Browns Boys.
As has often been the case though a big comedy special is obviously missing on the night - Gavin and Stacey was the first for a few years last year.
Do the Julia Donaldson animations usually get decent ratings? Could it be as a lead in for The Queen? Though you would assume that most people would view her majesty on BBC One anyway.
As for the schedule itself, it is safe. I’m surprised that they’ve given a Christmas Day slot, or at least a prominent slot to strictly after the reaction to the highlights packages prior to this series. I suppose the only way to do a proper Christmas show this year would have been to have used this years contestants.
Although I suspect if you put Not Going Out in a Christmas Day slot it would do well enough to justify. It’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation there.
The BBC One schedule does seems a comedy show and a Doctor Who light.
Yes, and it being a Top 25 suggests it'll just be short clips whilst people would prefer a top ten in full. TBH they could probably even get away with showing a recent one in full.
