I also love some of Wikipedia's excuses for some of the idents: "Celebratory 27 September 2018 – present A multicoloured firework theme makes up the sides of the 2 curve,
inspired by Firecracker from the 1991 set
. Often used for entertainment, sport and music programming." Oh yes because a 2 being damaged by firecrackers definately inspired someone at Superunion to create an ident with fireworks. Totally.
I do feel the current lot maybe don't exist without the likes of Optics, Diary, and Cooper Cut-Out.
The association with Firecracker, however, is decidedly flimsy.
Seriously! Also holy crap someone actually removed any references to the 2's from the Wikipedia page!

The Wikipedia page for the 91-01 idents used to have a description of each one. Don't get why that's been cut.

Only the "this ident is based on x" had been removed.

Edit history is your friend. Got caught up in an edit war by the looks of it. Somebody chopped it, somebody added it back, somebody chopped it out... Plus it was "over descriptive". Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information apparently.

Ok, I admit I was a bit too hasty in removing all the “inspired by” descriptions! I read the previous page of this thread and intended to just remove that Firecracker reference, but noticed almost every ident description had something similar and none had any sources, so I decided (perhaps too drastically) it was best to just get rid of the lot - it’s always recommended to include a link to an official source with information like that so it doesn’t just turn into an individual editor’s personal opinion on something, but the recent re-addition of most of them (with reworded text) looks to be a good compromise, so a thank you to who did that as it’s fine staying now.

Also, today (for Britain, anyway, still the 22nd over here in the US) marks one year since Thought-Provoking 2 was shown for the first time, meaning it's been one year since a regular ident has debuted on Two. I'm suprised there hasn't been a rebrand, let alone a new ident yet. Then again, a few months ago I asked the BBC about 2s idents and the nice person at BBC Complaints said that they're looking into them.
