ITN does seem to the archetypal private school boys and girls club. Very difficult to find anyone on the network both in front and behind the camera who wasn't privately educated. It's far worse than the BBC in that respect.

'CBS/5 World News' anyone?

If they did go in house, they would have to upgrade their UK news operation quite substantially. Yes, they could back it up with the resources of both Network 10 in Australia and CBS News in the US, but they would still need to do significant upgrade work on the UK news operation, which is currently just the CBS News London Bureau.

It's not really a case of upgrading what they have now, they'd effectively have to start from scratch. There would be a bit of crossover with what their bureau does for US audiences but not much and of course they still need to do that.

Yeah, very true, but they do have a base of operations already, the CBS News London Bureau, but that would probably need major expansion and upgrades, and they'd need a minimum of 4 new bureau operations. Manchester (North of England), Cardiff (Wales), Glasgow (Scotland) and Belfast (Northern Ireland). They'd probably need more, but that's a bare minimum.

The other issue with that idea is that CBS's UK affiliate is the BBC. So when it needs coverage of the UK it uses BBC News material and resources.

So they'd end up with having to produce their own news for Channel 5 with Viacom/CBS UK resources..... but for CBS in the US they can use the BBC's

And worth pointing out 10 in Australia isn't exactly the model to go for considering they've just axed significant number of staff now broadcast from just Melbourne and Sydney, closing their studios in other states. Indeed the chatter down there has been about whether they should follow the C5 model and outsource their news.
Be nicer and more tolerant to each other. Them's the rules.
