Will CNNI ever be back??? Not one second of CNNI people and international news for a week now.

Rosemary is on air now.

I find it a bit weird to see the right-side show both the election and purple COVID numbers side-by-side.

Looks like CNN US is turning into Sky Sports News, graphics-wise!

Thankfully, there's not normally as much on screen clutter on CNN International programmes.

I am really hoping that now the election is done they could add a couple of hours of international news and start easing off some of those domestic newsroom bulletins or the early evening domestic shows like the Situation Room. I know London is in lockdown currently but BBC WN manages to operate from there! Or reboot the Hong Kong studio - there's not much Covid in Hong Kong, very few social distancing restrictions, and an experienced news anchor. I realise I'm looking at it very simplistically, but CNN is an international news network!

Another night and again there is no Quest Means Business. Fed up of tuning in and hoping the programme may actually air per the schedule!
Instead, it's an unnecessary US simulcast again. There are no new developments re any breaking US news or any reason why they need to simulcast the US channel at this moment.
There is so much international news and business they should be covering
Richard is obviously on holiday, but there are usually relief presenters who cover in his absence. Julia covered it the other evening, for example.
Simulcasts can be useful, but this is just lazy every night and surely another step towards the International channel's end.
There is hardly any International news and programming these days. And they can't use the pandemic as an excuse, as other companies are successfully managing to run their international channels.
They are always boasting that CNN International is the biggest and best global news channel - only if 'global' means America, it seems.
Sorry to rant, but it’s frustrating for loyal viewers.

I honestly don't see CNNI going back to what it was pre-pandemic. This and endless US politics coverage made them realize the channel can go on as it is now, with Atlanta doing overnights and everything else a simulcast with one or two prime-time slots for Amanpour and whoever stays with the channel. Bianca hasn't been on the channel for ages, Hala is also gone last few months, Richard appears on and off, Isa is ''working from home'' , Cyril is missing etc.

Warner Media is making cuts and there will be much more to come and CNNI is in a perfect position for a massive cut off.

A channel killed by Trump & COVID.....

Sadly, while I hope you are wrong, I think you may be right. It wouldn't be so bad if their domestic shows also gave international news more than 5 minutes of coverage, but they don't!

It was already losing its 'international-ness' before the pandemic, with so many US simulcasts gradually creeping in.
For the last couple of years, most of the international stories they covered felt like they had to be related in some way to the US to be able to make it on air.
Now viewers are just used to seeing all the US programmes and faces: Early Start, New Day, Newsroom (US), Anderson Cooper, Situation Room, The Lead, State of the Union, Smerconish, Reliable Sources, etc.
They probably won't even bother resurrecting the London programmes. It seems they've long been forgotten about: The Brief, Hala Tonight, Your World Today, etc.
Even QMB, which is based in the US, is off air more than it is on!
They are obliged to keep the Amanpour programme going, due to deals with other broadcasters who show it. Otherwise I'm sure that wouldn't air most of the time, either.
Hala, Bianca, Max and many others haven't been on air for months, if they even still work for CNN!

Being honest, I think CNNI will probably be simulcast-heavy still for the rest of the year now (they've given no indication that the schedule will be going back to what it was at the start of the year any time soon).
You'd have to hope though post-inaugaration a few more of the CNNI shows start to reappear. Al Jazeera,Sky, BBC and all the other news networks seem to have adapted to COVID and have most of the usual presenters in studio.

I thought the election coverage was excellent and really that sort of style should've been an indication to those in charge of CNNI as to what the international channel should be like in style - punchy but journalistically very strong with rolling coverage around the clock. CNNI could be that but with a focus on stories around the globe but with particular attention on America (as many viewers know it as the U.S Network and a few simulcasts to view the news from a more American perspective is no bad thing if it doesn't dominate the schedule the way it does now).
If CNNI wanted to go that way they probably could - they have a load of great presenters stationed all around whether it be Atlanta, New York, Abu Dhabi, London or Hong Kong and the international journalism is great

The thing is I don't mind some of the simulcasts - shows like AC360, State of the Union, J hell even New Day are fine and some of the weekend U.S Newsrooms are preferable to yet another Inside Africa repeat. I wouldn't even mind John King's slot sticking around as after his recent spike in popularity I can see global viewers not minding having him on air daily.
But come a few months time they really don't need so many - do International viewers really need Early Start, all of New Day, Reliable Sources,Erin Burnett etc.

You do have to wonder though if some of the pre-pandemic shows will go back to being International though - The Brief and YWT in particular may not be long for this world. Plus being realistic you do think if the International shows don't return soon then it does feel like there are far too many International presenters for far too few slots - and they can't all be correspondents. As others have mentioned loads of those who previously had daily slots like Hala,Isa,Bianca,Cyril are either on fill-in duty every so often or doing live reports once in a blue moon and I'm not sure how sustainable that may be for the beancounters in a COVID world where the pursestrings are tighter than ever.

I would expect once Biden takes office and Trump has gone, all US news networks will take a ratings hit, but CNNI should be more resilient to that because there are always things like Brexit and other global political issues, natural disasters etc which continue to draw an international audience. CNNI does make a lot of money for CNN, less from advertising, more from sponsorships, pay TV providers etc.

If CNN really wanted to save money, I wouldn't really mind if they merged CNNUS and CNNI into a single branded CNN, if it had a lot more global coverage than what the US shows provide. If CNN became one channel, upped it's international and business news (ie First Move and QMB could be adapted to a US audience, they mostly cover US markets anyway), and maybe moved the overnight CNN Newsroom block to be a London-based breakfast show, it would have the potential to be quite successful in the US and internationally. It would certainly provide a big point of difference to it's main US competitors, and international viewers would continue to benefit from it's excellent coverage of US politics.

They launched their brand new flash London studio in March 2020 and since then it's barely been used! I would expect they have signed a long term lease, and if so, they can't really just pack up and walk away.

(Corrected the timing of the launch of the London studio. Thanks for noting LivefromORL!)
