So that would explain the enormous amount of Bill we saw over the last week and weekend - he's having next week off! Lazy so and so.

And Jon Sopel doing the six - should be interesting. Lets hope he's not going to steal Bill's crown as second presenter.

I like Sopel. He has this excellent way of suiting anything he does on television.

Aint Bill doing Breakfast Monday-Thursday with Natasha? Also according to the Radio Times, its George & Sian on Wednesday then, Jon & Sophie Thursday and Friday and, Jon is apparently doing Breakfast as well on the Friday. Razz

Well remember it isnt the first time a presenter has presented breakfast then gone on to present the Six O Clock News, Sian has done it before

Even Michael Buerk did breakfast one day during the summer and went on to do the Ten the same day.

Similarly, I feel sorry for Mark Simpson (Ireland correspondent) because he has been on Breakfast since 6, and he is still on doing the Six and I bet he will still be on during the Ten. I know journalists have unsocial hours but working over fifteen hours a day is a little strenuous.

Oh right, that's cool, I didn't realise that Bill was doing Breakfast during next week - filling in for Dermot I suppose. I think Bill and Natasha work really well together, so I'll look forward to that.

And yes, I do agree that Sopel is good - I've always liked him. I think he's better at the straight "news" than Breakfast though. It should be interesting to see him on the 6, although I hope it doesn't become a familiar fixture because I think Bill does it brilliantly.

It seems to me that some of the BBCs "second presenters" are actually better than the ones who anchor the main bulletin. I prefer Bill and Sian to Dermot and Natasha, I think Darren Jordon is better than Anna Ford, I reckon Bill does the 6 better than George (although I think Sophie co-presents well), while I actually prefer Fiona to Huw on the 10. People like Jane Hill and Jon Sopel are excellent too. Does anyone feel a slight rejig of the presenter rota coming on???

Maybe - of course Anna will be retiring relatively soon I guess, and then I suppose people will have to shift round a bit.

I couldn't imagine Stephen Cole and Maxine Mawhinney doing the 6 coming straight from News 24/World. I reckon Bill & Sian would be left as second presenters on the 6, and would stay doing Breakfast from Friday to Sunday (what exactly did you mean when you said the two couples would do a job share - isn't that what they do at the moment?

I agree that Jon Sopel would probably be brought in to do something, perhaps the 1 or maybe the 6 - he or Jane are the two natural choices to replace Anna.

I don't think Stephen will be doing N24, or BBC One for that matter, on a regular basis - AFAIK, he's only stepping in this weekend.

Just found out what Dermot's been up to recently, with not being on Breakfast - he's been travelling on concorde to New York! I've just seen a report he's filed on his journey.

Oh , for some reason I thaught that we were saying that steve was to present the BBC 1 news regularly. By a job share I meant that Bill+Sian would do Monday-Friday one week, then Dermot and Natasha would do Monday-Friday the next week, with Botfield and Wilcox doing the Weekends for example, because bill and sian are probably as popular as the viewers as D+N.

I'm not so sure about Steven Cole, despite being recognisable to thousands around the world I'd say that he's virtually unknown in the UK. I can't think of any virtual unknowns they've got to present the flagship bulletin...
