Just a general question - do people like Bill & Sian still do some work on News 24 - I can't get the channel, so I don't often see it.

And I'm looking forward to seeing Bill back on the 6 tonight - IMHO he's far better than George Alagiah. There's so much more chemistry between Bill and Sophie than with George.

Nope! Bill and Sian dont present on News 24 other than the Weekend Breakfast bulletins. Sian has done quite a few Weekend's recently on BBC, but that's about it.

I will be very interested to see Dermot on the Six, though I wouldn't hold my breath about him taking the lead role.

I am wondering if the Beeb have any plans for Kaplinsky to cross over to BBC One bulletins? Perhaps a bank holiday here and there?

I don't like it when Sophie takes the lead role - it just doesn't feel right, she feels too lightweight. It seems silly for her to read the important headlines, and then to have an incredibly experienced journalist and reporter like Bill standing by the big screen telling us about the "fluffy" stories coming up later in the bulletin.

IMHO it is not enough justification that she is the "regular" presenter - she may be the regular co-anchor, but that shouldn't automatically propel her into the anchor's role whenever the usual anchor is away.

As for Kaplinsky, I wouldn't hold your breath - I'm not sure she's got the necessary gravity for the BBC1 bulletins. I do think she's excellent on Breakfast though, and I even think that she and Dermot are beginning to display some on-screen chemistry for the first time.

and BTW, Radio Times seems to be right as Bill just did the 3:20 update and said that he and Sophie would be back with the 6:00 News.

I just wish they'd let him anchor - he's an incredibly good journalist and presenter.

So what's Georgyboy up to. Time off, or is he back in Africa filming.

By the way, Jon Sopel will be presenting Breakfast tomorrow, according to newsmonkey on p.54 of the BBC News changes thread.

Ooh, why's that? I hope Dermot's not doing the 6 tomorrow as well as Friday, because I think Bill's far better at it.

Bill again on the six tonight then, and yet again I think he did it brilliantly. He really is one of BBC News' hottest properties right now.

A tad confused about tomorrow though - at the end of the 6:55 summary Bill said "we'll be back tomorrow at 6, see you then", which seems to imply that he'll be on again tomorrow, but the Radio Times says it will be Dermot.

All may become clear on Breakfast in the morning - I think it would be unlikely that Bill would do Breakfast and the 6, so if he's on in the morning we can assume that the 6 will be with Dermot.

Breakfast gave us a clue in some ways, but in others made things even more mysterious. But surely if Bill wasn't doing the 6 he'd do Breakfast? Instead it was Mr Sopel.

So are we going to see Dermot on the 6 this evening? Or will it be Bill? I imagine we'll find out on the 3.20 update.

Yes, I know it was! That's cool - it meant we avoided dreadful Dermot ruining the UK's most watched news bulletin. I wonder what happened - did Dermot duck out, or was the Radio Times just wrong?

I really do think Bill is good on the 6 - shame George is meant to be back next week.

Most likely because now that he's given up regular news presenting on BBC World, he's now available, and possibly they couldn't find another male capable of doing it who is available?
