I agree with you, Joe. I like a laugh as much as the next guy but that whole sequence was slightly childish and also a bit near the knuckle especially for a news broadcast. I prefer it when genuinely comic events happen purely by chance on news channels. This just feels manufactured and the BBC trying to be 'with it'. Humour should be spontaneous, not forced. Sadly it's all about generating social media 'buzz' and clickbait nowadays.

I don’t see the problem with it. Most newscasts have a kicker/happy talk at the end. I got ripped a new one either here or on DS for not seeing issue with the BBC Radio video with the Minions.

Presumably this means the end of 'Around the World', at just about the worst possible time for those involved in the production.

It’s a shame that it’s shutting down, could we perhaps see it on the NC? It may become a bit like a short outside source though. And not sure where it would fit in the schedule due to the length.

Something has apparently gone wrong with the playback servers during the repeat broadcast of The Travel Show on BBC WN & BBC NC. I keep seeing Nick Miller's face popping up on the screen in a static image of him standing in the weather room studio every few minutes. Someone must have hit a crossed wire with the servers by putting them in the wrong place. It has happened again now including a static image of the BBC News globe from the titles but without the logo. Can someone tell me what is going on please? TIA.

I would think there is absolutely no chance of it continuing unless another external company comes on board to fund it and provide a platform for it, although I suspect this is extremely unlikely, as it doesn't fit with the BBCs own commercial offerings and the programme was only ever made because it was profitable for the BBC to make it rather than because the BBC felt it was necessary (I imagine the commercial side of BBC News would make a bulletin of whatever length and style to just about anyone, as long as they were able to maintain journalistic and editorial control of the output and the bulletin wasn't being edited by the external company before being shown, if the right amount of money was on the table).

I don't mind Katy and Christian and enjoy their bulletin but at the same I don't think they have any special sort of chemistry. The constant delays and rushed endings usually make their interaction look awkward. I also don't think they need a special name for their hour.

The rushed endings and often not even saying goodbye to viewers is very awkward. As you say, their bulletin is awkward due to the delays.
She seems to know a lot about US politics, but she comes across as a bossy 'know all' and slightly arrogant. Definitely no chemistry together. The whole set up seems forced. Their 'funny bits' are awkward and unnecessary IMO. They are straight faced newsreaders and the producers are obviously trying to make it into more of a 'show', but it's just awkward. They don't have likeable or engaging personalities, such as Quest or Hesslehurst, who can get away with light hearted quips about stories and going off script, etc.

I’m just curious, would you say the same about someone like Nick Robinson on the Today programme, or Frank Gardener on the Ten? Katty has been a Washington-based correspondent, analyst and presenter since 1996 – she’s undoubtedly a specialist in US politics and domestic affairs, and I’d be worried if that didn’t come across in her presenting, interviewing and reporting after almost 25 years covering the beat?

Not doubting her expertise, it's that she seems to have come across abruptly when I have seen her.
I have never seen Robinson or Gardener.

I think it’s part of the schtick they play up. She’s very personable on msnbc.

I'm pretty sure she was ITN's Tokyo presenter on the C4 Daily in its first few months in 1989?
