TC2 and TC3 still exist - ISTR that the Star Bar was between the two of them?
(TC2 is now home to Lorraine, Loose Women and Peston, along with Sunday Brunch, TC3 is the home of GMB and This Morning)
Star Bar was in the foyer of Studio 2 I think?
Pity they destroyed all the studios

It was the assembly point/tea bar between studios 1 and 2 - Red Assembly.
There was a Green and a Blue assembly too, IIRC green was between TC4 and 6, blue was near TC7

Today's first episode had the new BBC logo, but MCMXC in the same font as the rest of the credits, so a combination of the two previous episodes.

Just "BBC 1990" in the same font as the rest of the credits in the second episode. Though the Cypher captions didn't have the actual BBC logo until some point in early 1991, be interesting to see what point they change from "1990" to "MCMXC" though.

A pleasant surprise they didn't edit down the 26-1-1990 edition into a 30-minute slot for the primetime showing.
And nice how the promotion for the next show matches its BBC Four slot - next Friday at 8 o'clock.
I do like the touch of extra colour and movement provided by the Cypher graphics.

A shame they're quite short lived until they disappear at the end of April for 8 months.
They become a lot less imaginitive after the 91 revamp as well, just being a standard template used on every song, nothing beats all the different animations used in the 1990-91 era.

At the end of yesterday's first episode, Nicky Campbell announced it was Mark Goodier presenting with Jakki Brambles the following week, but it was actually Simon Mayo. I'm presuming something happened which prevented Mark from being able to present, so Simon was drafted in only 2 weeks after his previous episode.

Yes, the Radio Times listing confirms that it was meant to be Mark Goodier that week: https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/ec2c10cf3ced4b86af39982e0685f193
I never liked the previous style of graphics, so I was happy to see them replaced with the new style captions, even warranted a mention in my diary at the time!

I don't think the 1989 graphics look that bad, they look less dated than many of the show's other graphics.
