Bang goes any hope of complaining about GB News' impartiality.

That’s not much you can say really without being ‘political’.

Obviously the government has the right to choose who they want for the job. But I’m not sure putting in people known for their political bias is going to be be very healthy for balanced journalism on TV.

Remember that impartiality in broadcasting is enshrined in law, not the whims of a chairman of the organisation

The government are in a position where they can change those laws though.

This does seem like very much an incendiary move.

Though if recent speculation is accurate the current government might not be around much longer.

Disappointing and unsurprising appointment. Let's hope it can at least be discussed here without censorship because like it or not these are political appointments with ramifications for British television.

Closer and closer to dictatorship we slide as the right wing coup continues.

Putting Paul Dacre in charge of OFCOM is bizarre. He is a notorious technophobe, famously dismissing the internet as the future of news in the late 1990s. I suspect Channel 4, who were the target of some ferocious Mail campaigns during his editorship, will have more reason to worry than the BBC.

Yes, irrelevant of political opinion, it is a ridiculous choice.

Presumably Steve Coogan will now be put in charge of Press Complaints Commission or whatever it is called now, to balance things out.
