Considering the news out of West Ham tonight of Covid19 positives, and their match going ahead allegedly within the protocols, the continuation of professional sport behind closed doors must be being questioned again.

Wonder if Monday's 8.15 kick off between Liverpool and Arsenal will get rescheduled so it finishes before pubs have to close? Would that have any implications for TV coverage?

Ridiculous that match has gone ahead considering they travelled up with the squad.

Does seem for now elite sport continues but I suspect there will be a turning point, especially with the open talk of a "circuit break" second lockdown. Now talk of no fans until March which pretty much wipes out this season and things like the Six Nations in terms of fans attending, and could certainly impact on rights deals moving forward.
Be nicer and more tolerant to each other. Them's the rules.

No fans until March will probably result in bankrupt clubs. If it's that bad, they might be better off just scratching this season, and treating it the same as the 1939/40 season, which was also aborted very early (after the third round of matches).

That would be an instant death-knell for many clubs, though. Player contracts have already been signed, so unless there was a 100% furlough scheme introduced to cover the shortfall, it would bankrupt them immediately. Not to mention rent and rates for stadium facilities. At least with a delayed timetable for fans returning (or the option to live-stream games) there's at least the possibility of getting some income in.

Absolutely. Any money is better than no money - and it looks like the PL might step in with funds and the Government might be offering targeted support. Also, many will continue to pay season tickets / donate season ticket funds to clubs which they might be less willing to do if the season is abandoned.

Not sure the 15 minutes is enough really considering pubs have to have customers out of the door by 10pm, and injury time of 5 minutes or more is pretty much the norm now. Only takes one lengthy VAR review or injury to go past that curfew.

From experience the Police aren't that "anal" about enforcement. They use common sense.

If the pub has stopped serving and are clearly in the process of closing up, they're not going to fine anyone for still having a few stragglers on the premises 15 minutes past the curfew.

Exactly - they'll be sensible enough to realise the game will end at 10:05pm, and that's when everyone will start to disperse. If the bar doesn't then shut and / or people don't leave, that's when might start to get involved.

Moving the KO forward by 15 minutes just helps with this, as well as removing the 'Well they're showing the football and can stay open another 15 / 20 minutes, why can't we here' and so on.
