I remember being fascinated by the technology behind it - my Dad would tell me that in the past they just had a camera pointed at a paper output from a Telex(?) printer, seemed ridiculous to me even as a 7 year old.

Doesn't seem that ridiculous really, seems like a fairly logical way to do it in the days before you could do it electronically.

Yeah, sorry I shouldn't have used the word 'even' - it is indeed logical but was rather taken for granted by me that such things could just be done electronically.

I had the same reaction when I found an old recording of the weather featuring a presenter moving between physical maps, and much later when I realised that older automatic lifts didn't/don't rely on silicon at all.

I stumbled across this and the sheer quality for 1993 is mind blowing.

Seen that before, looks even more stunning if you can find the 60fps version. Doesn't look like something from 27 years ago, prety much only some of the fashions and the World Trade Center give away the age.

Blimey, not one person looking down at a small device in their hand while walking the streets!

Makes Button Moon look expensive by comparison. That's always looked like it was done on a budget of 26p, but it was very popular back in the day (enough to run for 91 episodes anyway) so it was a nice little moneyspinner for Thames if nothing else.

Wonder if a budget can be so slow the producers are paying the commissioning network money instead of the other way round? Wink

Found a BBC News Bulletin for the 4th March 2001. You can tell this was on the day of the car bomb incident as BBC News has do the news from it's N24 studio or maybe they was doing that anyways because this was on a sunday and they did this from their weekend studio?

I'm not sure that was the News24 studio, isn't it the main N6 studio but with a different picture on the screens at the back rather than the usual live view of the newsroom?

It's neither, it's the desk that Moira Stuart sat at during Breakfast, in TC7.
