Pretty coincidental. Corriepedia says "This episode was transmitted at 6.50pm to allow for coverage of Euro 96 football" so I wonder if it was an accelerated flow style junction to get into the football ASAP. You'd think a master copy would have the usual credits though, even if Granada had been asked at the last minute to edit them out.

It was a very tight schedule that afternoon / evening, with both Semi Finals taking place, one kicking off at 4pm and the other at 7:30pm. Both the BBC and ITV were showing both Semi Finals, the agreement being that if England or Scotland were in one, both channels could show it. That meant both had the option of showing the other Semi Final as well.

The first Semi-Final (France v Czech Republic) kicked off at 4pm, but went to extra time and penalties so is unlikely to have been off the air much before 6:40pm. I seem to remember the BBC dropping Neighbours and having short national and local news bulletins to get back on the air for build up to the England Semi Final at 7:10pm.

I'm not sure what ITV did that evening, but if they were trying to get any sort of national (and local) bulletins in as well as Corrie before 7:20pm, it would have been very tight for time.

They dropped the teatime news completely, national and regional. As you say, the Beeb dropped Neighbours to squeeze the news in.

That was the last tournament where both semi-finals were on the same day, presumably for this reason.

When are Max and Lily going to be back on the show? It seems bizarre that we're regularly seeing David at home, and hear of them being referred to, but we never see any signs of them. I presume for now they're keeping young actors away in the same was as elderly ones, who I think the latter are returning to the studios later this month.

Yeah, children are currently banned from the set, so they're using old footage for Oliver in the hospital and the other kids just don't appear.

Gemma’s quads are remarkably well behaved now, always asleep upstairs.

IIRC Tracey Barlow disappeared upstairs for a decade, "listening to her tapes" while having a head transplant. Very Happy

Corrie has caught up with the face masks in shops rule tonight with David and Shona wearing one in Dev’s.

They haven’t caught up with pubs and restaurants being allowed to open for eating in, as yet

Mention of Maurice Jones tonight, which was unexpected!

Yeah, the Manchester area did suffer one recently.

AFAIK, unless the new national "rule of six" specifically restrictions overrule it, recently applied local lockdown rules that were put in to force about 5 weeks ago (where separate households are not allowed to socialise in each other homes or private gardens) still apply to several boroughs of Greater Manchester. It's this local lockdown in some form that might now be seen on-screen in Corrie.
