Correct. Normally Proms coverage starts at 8 or 8.30, but the concerts always start earlier at 7.30. I go every year, and found out. When Katie Derham (or whoever) are doing the intro, it is usually recorded during the interim, or even as the previous prom is finishing.

I imagine a time delay as such allows for anything unexpected to be cut. Ordinarily a high profile event such as Last Night might be rather tempting for protestors (e.g. BLM or XR) if it was being aired completely live.

No - the time delay is nothing really to do with that. It's because the Proms concerts at the RAH need to start earlier than is ideal for the live broadcast slots the BBC want to broadcast them in.

If the actual concerts started later, they'd finish later, causing transport and local residents issues in the area.

There was a Proms concert broadcast on the BBC World Service this afternoon, so they still are.

No - the time delay is nothing really to do with that. It's because the Proms concerts at the RAH need to start earlier than is ideal for the live broadcast slots the BBC want to broadcast them in.

In the past there have been Late Night Proms at 10pm (or there abouts), so a 7pm start was required to get the earlier one finished in time for everything to be ready for the second one.

Just wondering - is there any reason why the Marr show couldn't come from C and the news simulcast from E?

Marr really doesn't look good in E. The newsroom background doesn't suit it plus some of the red panelling doesn't help.

It might be logistics of either the time they start recording - they prerecord some interviews on occasions. Alternatively it maybe a risk assessment that because they are doing in studio interviews - E is physically closer to the entrance than C and therefore reduces the distance someone needs to be escorted through the building and objects they may inadvertently touch.

It feels like, but I might be misremembering, that they’ve made changes to the image on the video screens behind the in studio guest. From the guest shot it is no longer very obvious that they are in E rather than B.
