You’d think the bosses would be listening to output or having someone do it for them, given they’ll be held accountable if Ofcom gets involved.

Only if they’re on AM or FM. Most hospital radio stations won’t be.

Thats what I was partly thinking in regards to OFCOM (first thing I thought of)....

I know its not the same kettle of fish but it made me think of the whole John Sachs/Russell Brand thing apart from its Geoff speaking about Yazmeen and involving a trial (I was trying to find something relevant to what I meant but this is probably the closest I could think of)

I thought some stations we're on FM, I don't know if you can ask Alexa for a particular station or if station has an app...

I only watched the episode briefly with Geoff being on Hospital Radio but surely in terms of a trial shouldn't he be keeping his mouth shut than broadcasting his own affairs on Hospital Radio? I know that this is Corrieland but surely a producer or at least someone should have been there to wind his neck in? Seems more like one of those corrie moments that isn't researched...

Does hospital radio have a producer?

That was the other part of my thinking at least someone there overlooking the studio but clearly from what I seen it looked like Geoff in a empty studio in a "no holds barred" situation... Its one way of Corrie milking this whole saga, just a pity he couldn't be thrown in jail quicker...

Having watched a bit. Looks like it broadcasts online. Realistically these stations are staffed by volunteers and there is no way a manager could be monitoring the output all the time. Even when if a station boss was listening online they’d be powerless to take him off the air.

I know my station manager would have told me off if I started blurting out my personal life on the air.

Yet in Corrie it seems like he is able too and as mentioned in regards to Yazmeens trial, I would have thought he would not be allowed to air his views until its over?

I guess since Yazmeen is in jail for the time being he feels he is getting free reign and hasn't thought of his consequences (even if he is trying to play victim here/listeners), its will backfire (or again expect Corrie drag this out further)

Roch Valley Radio, the hospital radio station I was with as a presenter up until late last year, was only broadcasting to the patients and staff of Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary, and online via their website, plus their mobile app and Amazon Alexa, but not on AM. FM or DAB, so wasn't subject to OFCOM regulations.

Surely on the other manager should be at least checking the broadcasts (no matter the time of day?), its like saying he could be saying racist things on air and get away with it because the manager isn't listening.... (random scenario).

If he is a volunteer for the station but surely this would raise suspicion as they would know something has gone on (well since he has opened his mouth about it?) and to then take action ie tell him to leave? I know if you are a volunteer you can leave anytime as its not paid, but are we meant to believe he gets away with whatever he likes on air but not expect to be hauled in over it? (seems naive for Corrie)

Yes the Abi & Kevin stuff appears to be a mix of pre & post Covid scenes. Quite interesting to watch at the moment to identify the socially distanced scenes. The cornershop scene with nobody serving did stand out.

The Kabin scene with Sally, Brian & Kathy also looked very distanced.

That makes sense as Michael Le Vell and Sally Carmen were 2 of first cast members that came back to film.

As I understand it, hospital radio stations are not under the same Ofcom obligation to retain a broadcast archive of six months prior like licensed mainstream and community radio stations.

Although in practice, a good hospital station would follow that principle, to cover their backs should they need to provide content on request, or investigate effectively any complaints.

Never expected an OFCOM investigation to be lined up for Corrie's 60th anniversary storyline.

Generally volunteers have to work other jobs. There would be a degree of trust placed in the presenters and would usually have to undergo some training before hand. There is no way management could be monitoring all the time.

Before the days of streaming hospital radio stations with no FM or AM licence wouldn’t have been accessible to anyone not at the station or a patient.
