Arrow The first Sunday edition of the programme was 7th October 2001. On Saturdays it was Weekend 24 over on BBC Two

This is good fun, although of course Breakfast had been running on Sundays (and Saturdays) since it began. 7th October was the first time it was billed in the Radio Times but it had been on BBC1 since 9/11, initially as a temporary measure but it never ended..

Going back to an earlier post , and yes that is correct. A clip from July 2001:

Didn’t realise Kate and Mishal have been the main weekend presenters for 11 years now. Both very good at what they do.

LOL, after 11 years, you'd certainly hope so!

Certainly Mishal is one the BBC's greatest assets, she can throw her hand to anything.

Julie Somerville in 2011? Blimey.

Didn’t they go through a phase of bringing back a few older news names with much publicity around that time?

Think it was after the BBC was accused of ageism etc to do with the axing of a judge on strictly. Wasn’t the hosts of ‘Rip off Britain’ chosen with this in mind? All brilliant choices though!

Yes they gave Julia Somerville and Fiona Armstrong very limited contracts and had Carole Walker and Zeinab Badawi present a handful of news channel shifts on top of their regular work. All of the presenters involved except Julia were then younger than a lot of the women who currently appear on the channel and even BBC One bulletins are now.

Yes they gave Julia Sommeville and Fiona Armstrong very limited contracts and had Carole Walker and Zeinab Badawi present a handful of news channel shifts on top of their regular work. All of the presenters involved except Julia were then younger than a lot of the women who currently appear on the channel and even BBC One bulletins are now.

Although mentioned in the PR stunt at the time, I do not recall Zeinab ever having to do an NC shift.

Julia did NC and network.
Carole did NC
Fiona did NC and Breakfast
Zeinab did nothing...... as far as I know, and as it was my disseration at Uni - I paid close attention. If Zeinab did - I'd love to see evidence. I believe she refused the idea in 2011.

Zeinab is ageless, she looks like she did when she did the ITN morning News in the 90's. Watched her today on World, incredible. I'd quite like to see her on Newsnight actually.
