Depends on the type of cleaning tape, my grandparents had a dry cleaning tape which had a picture and tone on the video to let you know when the heads were clean, a tape like that you'd be able to record on.

I had one that had a video graphic explaining what it was doing inside the VCR while it was working (it was by Scotch).

Weirdly, it had a warning at the start to not use it in TV/VCR combo systems. I'm not sure why. Also kinda useless if you'd already bought the tape and opened it.

In 1986, apparently you could show a pair of breasts in a title sequence at 7pm and nobody batted an eyelid?

All about context most probably. Most likely skinny dipping and she hasn't just got those out for the sake of getting them out... *ahem*

No I know it's not sexual or anything, but still, you'd never see that casually in a title sequence now!

The water from the pool is covering them too.

Was it this one by any chance? I was intrigued as to why you couldn't rewind and that when it did come to rewinding you had to do it via the Scan/Search function.

Would it be because the head wouldn't be touching the tape if you stopped before rewinding? I don't know what "clean tape path" means but I'm assuming that's something to do with it.

Yes. Although that version is missing the warning at the start (or the uploader didn't capture it)

At a guess, an abundance of caution because of the higher temperature inside such a combo device and the flammable cleaning solution on the tape?

No it wasn't, it was just white text on a black background that said something like "When you can see this clearly, your heads are clean". I do think it was Scotch branded though. She may well still have it somewhere in a drawer, I can look next time I'm there.

A fairly insignificant junction here but it made me realise how little Granada continuity I've seen. Some regions seem over represented online - the South West for example, but despite the fairly high population of the North West either no-one recorded or kept anything

Different demographics. More affluent areas could more easily afford VHS machines and, more importantly, more quantity of VHS tapes so they didn't tape over everything constantly.
