Few things of note in this video from the wonderful VideotapeFTW channel:

A more youthful looking David Foster provides the initial report, Foster now of TRT World I believe.

An After Nine logo at 6:20 going into the break that I don't think lasted very long. Can see what they were trying to do though but that had gone by the following year.

"Mad" Lizzie Webb probably earned her nickname from what goes on from 17:50 onwards, but then I suppose that's what Jive Bunny does to you...

Yorkshire's rather nice looking "21 years" ident at 21:13 even if it does sound a bit pompous - "21 years of entertainment and excellence" indeed.

And going into the Children's ITV Summer Morning, Scally the Dog has a different voice compared to how he's probably better remembered, plus he sits there panting as well like a real dog would... Though of course when Scally was introduced six months earlier he actually behaved more like a real dog - look up the "T. Bag and the Revenge of the T. Set S5E3" video on the same channel and you'll see it either side of that T-Bag episode.

Are you trying to tell me Scally wasn't a real dog? 😱

A couple of interesting Children's BBC videos from 1993.

Part of the Comic Relief special which that year came from the Hangar 17 studio. Most notably there's a follow-up I didn't know existed to the semi-legendary "Helping Hand" puppet song of 1991 (which got another airing in 1995) only this time it's mostly the human stars of CBBC, with some from EastEnders (obviously) and even a couple from CITV too. Only problem is it's not very good and for some reason the whole thing is done live, which means there's some shocking miming. One of those ones that is worth watching though just for summing up an entire era on one stage.

Secondly lots of links from Christmas Eve 1993 which start with the walk into Pres A, and end on the roof which the tree has apparently gone through. They've had to come up with an unusual setup for Maggot Moments, being presented from the birthday card area as the tree obscures the video wall. Toby Anstis and Zoe Ball are in TVC and Philippa Forrester is "in Prague" (aka did some filming earlier in the month and now has some time off). There's also the customary news bulletin which is unusually using the Breakfast News theme because of the early hour.

That's absolutely right, Sky Premier circa the launch of Sky Digital was planned very much to be a HBO-style channel with premium drama and comedy alongside the films, hence why they also signed up Barry Norman around that time with his show initially on Sky Premier. I think they commissioned a few dramas for it as well. But yes, I'm pretty sure Enfield, Baddiel's Syndrome and Time Gentlemen Please were all commissioned for Sky Premier.

But a few months before that they seemingly got cold feet over the idea, perhaps realised the shows weren't srong enough to convince people to pay extra for them, or decided it would confuse the propositions of Sky One and Sky Premier, so moved them all over to Sky One instead and Premier was films and nothing but.

And years later they went through the same thought process with Sky Atlantic, with a different outcome... documentaries about Devon fishing villages on the HBO channel

Talking of character evolutions, I remember when Edd the Duck first appeared in the Broom Cupboard towards the end of 1988, not only was he completely bald, but had a much higher pitched squeaking sound, similar to Gordon the Gopher. I believe there was also a story arc within his introduction, and of course, the competition where young viewers were asked to give him some hair, which led to him entering his most iconic form, with green hair and a much lower pitched, expressive range of "quacks".

There are also a few more early Edd clips available in the 1987-91 section of the CBBC page on TVARK:

While OnDigital is great for television, Who remembers OnNet, the internet service which displays the internet on your television?
If not, this advert explains it all.

Some details here:

"ONnet costs £5 a month, with no upfront costs, the box, cordless keyboard and connections are provided free for as long as the subscription is maintained."

That’s similar to Microsoft’s WebTV (later MSNtv) and AOLtv. Both were active in the US around the same time as OnNet/OnDigital. I’m assuming the concept was also a hideous failure here?

Like everything else at the time, Sky wiped the floor with it:

Was later rebranded as ITV Active after the rebranding of OnDigital, and then presumably went down the pan with the rest of the company in 2002.

Didn't some element of that service end up lasting years after ITV Digital closed and was still accessible on your TV through that box? It might have been email or something but I think it was supplied by a non ITV company, hence why it didn't immediately end.
