Now children, this is what happens on the morning news when the batteries in the newsreaders alarm clock die...

(I'm sure theres something missing...)

That, people, was the PERFECT example of how NOT to airbrush the living daylights out of Owen Thomas.

Now we move on to MORE ITV News mocks...

Bloody hell, that's amazing.

Well done!

The ITV News mocks are brilliants - my only suggestion would be to lighten up the Lunchtime News version.

By the way - they deserve their own thread!

Hmm... comments should stay focused on the actual designs, not the person making them.

I've installed an older version of my 3D modelling program on Mac Classic, so I have one design rendering in Virtual PC, and another rendering in Classic mode. I can get more done now!

Next is a silly mock - TV Forum v 20 Cent. Fox, its almost finished, just gotta mix the music...

Ok here it is. Spot the mistake(s) - The sky doesn't move until half way through! Argh!! Thats what you get for using older versions of programs and forgetting how to use them! Nevermind, at least this isn't an audition for Mock Idol.

Pardon my ignorance, but aren't those Sky images above just the same as they used to be with a new bit of text slapped in? "They're almost as good as the originals" you say. Almost exactly the same, I'd say.

Why?

Some people try and re-create original designs but they end up looking nothing like them. Thanks for saying they're almost the same - that was the point.

I used 2 images on another thread to 'trace' my own so it would give me ideas for other designs. Thats just the way I work sometimes. Something new could come out of those old designs.

I put a lot of work into creating my designs, its not just slap dash. If they were, they'd look nothing like the originals. Give it some time and you'll see new designs inspired by that bunch of 'originals'.

To artwork, and I emphasise - artwork - these old logos is of course up to you. Calling them 'designs' is a little ambitious, however, as they are simply slight amendments to extinct identities. Design, as we talk about it here, is in it's essence creativity for a purpose. I see no purpose in your 'exhibition' of the aforementioned 'graphic amendments'.

I am curious as to what you statement you are trying to make by putting them here with a couple of the current channel names added to them.
I would say that branding these images 'inspirational' is not only hyper-egotistical, but also takes credit for someone elses originality - as you have shown none.

I think these are an interesting re-working of the wireframed globe motief.

I really do like this idea, and its execusion is nice.

I didnt ask credit for them. I'm working on designs based on them. Its just what I feel like doing. I dont need or want credit. I put the designs up there not only to give me inspiration, but for others too. There are many ways I get my inspiration, looking at and re-creating old work is one of them.

We all have our ideas as to what design actually is. I dont think it is something that can simply be explained in some dictionary. Design or art is someones creation - however good or bad it is. Just because you have a son with one eye and a missing leg, or he looks like someone else, doesn't mean you love him any less.

Ok, firstly, you do have some valid points and that is generally accepted by myself, and by other members of the forum too. However, you can be rather too harsh, as in the post above where you directed the following comment towards Ministry of Design: "Egotist vulgarian". This AFAIC is unacceptable abuse towards another member. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why you posted this comment, and I have alerted the moderators to that post, and asked them to look at others of yours at the same time.

Another thing I wished to point out to yourself was to do with the following thread, here. In this thread, you have stated (and I quote again): "Lacks any originality,". Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't the word 'Mock' have numerous definitions, some of them being:

1) To treat with ridicule or contempt; deride.
2) To mimic, as in sport or derision. See Synonyms at ridicule.
3) To imitate; counterfeit.
4) To frustrate the hopes of; disappoint.
(Courtesy of Dictionary.com.)

Pay close attention to definition three. "To Imitate; counterfeit". Now, the original poster in that thread, chose to copy the BBC LDN style, and apply it to a different local region. Therefore, he was 'imitating' or 'counterfeiting' the BBC LDN style. Whilst not necessarily showing true originality, I believe his post is quite valid, given the forum title and aims.

I also seem to recall from this thread, that you have stated that we have seen your design many times. If this is the case, why not let us all know which design(s) it is, so we can give valid and useful critiques of your work, which consequently may help you to improve it, as I'm sure you will be the first to admit, that even your own work is not perfect.

To sum up: Yes, there are some very bad mocks on this forum, but there are also some very good ones. The vast majority are mediocre, and can be taken or left as pleased. Everyone deserves fair and useful comments with regards to their work, and usually this is what happens. However, this is not always the case, and everybody, not just The Realist, needs to learn to think just a little before they post, as to wether their comments are merely put-down's, or helpful for the person on the receiving end.
