Was it the same space? If you look at 92/93 era clips it looks like the studio was on the first floor not the ground. 94 clips the studio is on the ground floor.

So those pans across the atrium. Where they done live with a PSC and tripod, or with a fixed remote pan and tilt operated in the gallery, rather like the trundlecam at BH nowadays?

Heavens knows. When NAT shared the studio with the EEN, they had various attempts.

NAT relaunched with Trevor in 1992 and there was this what appears to be a pre recorded pan

Then we had this version with John Suchet

And then this version which clearly used the camera used for the EEN and appears live.

I have read that all of the News at Ten intros from the 1992 to 1999 era were pre recorded, to ensure the camera pan could be done

I think I might have managed to work it out now - this is an absolute minefield as both basement studios have looked so similar at various points in the past 15 years!

Studio 1:
ITV News 1999-2004
CSO studio used for Elections and News Channel back-up after 2004
5 News in 2012 (before it moved to Northern & Shell)
ITV News/London from 2013-present

Studio 2:
CSO studio used for Elections and News Channel back-up before 2004
ITV News from 2004 until 2013 (and London for a short time after it left Studio 4)
5 News from 2016-present and The Wright Stuff from 2018-present

Does that look about right? What a nightmare trying to keep track of all these studios swaps - much easier with the BBC. I've edited the photos on page 4 of this thread to now reflect the proper studio names.

Two main studios in the basement are essentially the same size each, according to one writer they measure 55 x 46Ft in space.

I've read various things on this before, mostly on this forum. I think this is the case, but I could be wrong.

The plan was originally to film one panover with each presenter, and depending on who was presenting, that one would be shown. I'm guessing with the second video, they maybe hadn't filmed a pan with Suchet yet, so they panned over the newsroom instead?

The complication came when Julia Somerville returned to presenting after her brain tumour, as she wore different coloured suits, so they started the new panover as seen in the third video.

Well not if you compare the pan with John Suchet to the others as the camera is clearly in the newsroom and more of a swoosh.

I miss this era of News at Ten. Amazingly and unapologetically authoritative. No nonsense. Sir Trev at his best as well.

Wikipedia has the schedule from 04, which I think was fairly similar to at closure (although it shared its airtime on Freeview with ITV4 and finished at 6...). In Feb 2005 the Lunchtime News was extended to an hour with two presenters.

I got this from one friend who kept a record of the schedule from his old Sky Plus box from 2004/05.

He said it is mostly correct.

5.30am - ITV Early Morning News, simulcast live with ITV1
6.00am - ITV Early Morning News, repeated from 5.30am
6.30am - ITV Early Morning News, repeated from 5.30am
7.00am - ITV News Live with Lucy Alexander and Andrew Harvey
10.00am - ITV News Live with Alistair Stewart
11.45am - ITV News Live with Andrew Harvey (would include PMQs at 12.00pm on Wednesdays)
12.30pm - ITV Lunchtime News with Nicholas Owen, simulcast live with ITV1
1.00pm - ITV News Live with Nicholas Owen
2.00pm - ITV News Live with Joyce Ohajah
3.00pm - ITV News Live with Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale
4.00pm - ITV News Live with Steve Scott and Felicity Barr
5.30pm - ITV News Live with Chris Rogers
6.30pm - ITV Evening News with Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale, simulcast with ITV1
7.00pm - ITV Evening News Extra with Mark Austin
8.00pm - ITV News Live with Owen Thomas
9.30pm - ITV News Network with Chris Rogers, broadcast from the London Tonight studio
10.00pm - ITV News Live with Chris Rogers, broadcast from the London Tonight studio
10.30pm - ITV News at 10.30 with Trevor McDonald, simulcast live with ITV1
11.00pm - ITV News Live with Owen Thomas
1.00am until 5.30am - Repeats of the ITV News at 10.30 with live news summaries on the hour

On some weeknight they would simply rerun the 12.00am-1.00am news hour through the night with live summaries on the hour

On some weeknights they would have a live 30 minute news with in view sign language, which would then be repeated through the night with live summaries on the hour.

Quite remarkable looking at that schedule, how much more live news on offer than the BBC does on its news channel today.

We’ve discussed here in the past that the Breakfast license covered ITV1, ITV2 (maybe ITV3 too, but the hours were returned to ITV? But that’s a discussion for another thread). Was there any obligation to hand over the first few hours to GMTV?

Think it only ran for two weeks but when Scott Chisholm took over the breakfast show did Andrew Harvey leave the station?

Oh yeah I'd forgotten about Scott Chisholm. Such a shame his breakfast show lasted a matter of weeks before the station closed down. I can only imagine Andrew Harvey did leave then as I don't remember him having any involvement with ITV News in 2006 or later.
