This was a horrible disaster for Nashville. The city took a direct hit. Including one of the TV stations.
As ususal all of the tv stations in Nashville have been on the air for hours and hours of live coverage. Channel 4 WSMV - NBC. Doesnt have a helicopter but they had drones and they had 2 of them. I was IMPRESSED COMPLETELY. I normally dont like drones. I think they are silly and not useful. Today they really came in handy. And they were used perfectly on this mornings broadcasts.
There are many many many famous people that live and around Nashville. So this disaster should get longer coverage.

The Weather Channel in Atlanta the worlds first 24hr weather channel, has again changed live tv forecasting presentation. They have begun to utilize their photo realistic real-time 3D virtual studio and augmented reality solution to help the TV network transform its weather reports. They are using this technology live rather than in taped reports. The days of standing at a video wall or a greenscreen are going the way of the dodo. I cant imagine this being used during weather emergencies such as Tornado Outbreaks and Hurricane coverage. Its not the cheap and nasty VR you see on some news channels. This is same VR and AR they used to explain tornadoes and hurricane flood surge.

I imagine setting up these scenes take time unless there’s a generic breaking severe weather one.
Watching the video it seems like they could just change the super wide screen graphic feed and the AR map one. Don’t know if the wide vista wall type screen is rendered by the same engine or if it’s treated as a graphics input like the Max system does on the AR wall.

I guess the reality is that most map-based presentation is still best delivered on a flat projection though - as that is how people recognise their areas. I notice that there is a virtual screen carrying a flat map for that in the new 3D environment - so the bulk of the presentation of geographic data is still effectively 2D?

Looks gorgeous. Surprised weather presenting has very much remained in 2D when it seems an obvious contender to move to a 3D environment.
