If Challenge put any thought into their scheduling they’d show Captain Tom’s episode of Blankety Blank today. That said it’s probably not that easy as I think they usually licence a couple of series of shows at a time, Tom Moore must have appeared in Wogan’s final year and they’ve been showing the early ones.

That epidsode aired after the Queens speech, at 3.15 on Christmas Afternoon 1983 - so, yes to show it would need a bit of one off licensing - not that it's shouldn't be that difficult or 'tastefully tricky'- no Yewtree issues with any of the panel - unless you count the swerling rumours that were attached to Freddie Starr.

They do seem to have had a more consistent schedule lately which is only a good thing really, and showing more of what you'd expect rather than being over reliant on The Chase and Pointless.

This is true, but OTOH, a consistent schedule implies they don't have the ability to broadcast anything else due to expired rights for other content. Hopefully it's only for a short time due to the current world conditions and they have other programming lined up when things attempt to get back to "a new normal".

They do have other rights to other stuff but for whatever reason don't want to use them.

Agreed - the schedule has been superior recently to what we're normally dished up.

What rights to other stuff do they have do you know? Do the rights extend to shows that have been shown in the past 10 years or so, or do rights expire fairly quickly? Thank you.

Rights vary depending on the deal, sometimes multi-year or longer, sometimes only for a year. Suppose it depends how much lolly they can wave around. Crystal Maze, which they'd had on the channel ever since I think it was 1998, fell off the schedule because their rights to it ran out so they had to go and "buy" it again.

I believe they still have Strike It Rich which I haven't seen on there for a while and possibly 1992 Blockbusters (and Sky 1994 Blockbusters), plus of course their own version with Simon Mayo. It was documented that they do have access to Sky's other gameshows such as the ones that aired on Sky One like Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old? (they did what was effectively three versions of this, hosted by Noel Edmonds, a daytime version with Dick & Dom, and a third series with Damian Williams, which saw a major format change that didn't occur on the original American format)..

I'm surprised the BBC haven't looked to give it an archive airing, or even put it on iPlayer to add it to the Classic Gameshow collection (if that's still a thing). Suppose licensing could be a hurdle for that as well.

That was part of the BBC Four Collections and is available here:

Although they had to do a spot of editing for some of these I seem to recall.

The rest of the collections were here, which seems to have morphed into a "From the Archives" section and seems to have gained a shedload of other things:

Well this episode's gone out today, and Challenge have chopped out all of the skit between 7:05 and 8:59, it goes from Barrymore picking her up to putting her back down again:

I think its a new edit, but I can't be sure on that?

The Crystal Maze is being shown on Sky Two from Tuesday 12th May, from the very start.

It's also being shown on Challenge from Monday 18th May.

It's actually getting more showings on Sky Two (2 episodes a day in a 2 hour block) than Challenge (one episode a day).

Sky Two have been showing it on and off to fill occasional gaps in the schedule for a few years now.

Challenge are currently randomly showing a Text Santa special of The Chase and have edited out the Text Santa bit...thought my TV was on the blink for a bit!

The UKTV channels when they show Children In Need/Sport Relief specials(like DIY SOS for example) that have appeal details or a big Pudsey Bear head burnt onto the programme have to blur it out. Can look quite messy if the appeal strap was quite long.

Surprisingly actually there are no clean copies of these programmes without burnt in graphics, presumably were never intended to be repeated.

Family Fortunes currently being shown squashed to 16:9 within a 4:3 frame.

P.S. This episode features future comedian Junior Simpson.

P.P.S. And after the Central handicap a "CTE" handicap in a white script font on a pink square. Is that something like Central Television Entertainment?
