I've also accidentally stumbled accross this clip from a gallery director's channel, showing a full 15 minute bulletin back in October 1994 on BBC World Service TV. You'll see the gallery's output of the bulletin in full, complete with the talkback from the gallery staff, presented by Nicola Davis. I'm still loving the theme.

the BBC DOG appears and disappears at various times - almost as if the channel was being run on such a shoestring that they were sharing an Aston between that and (some of) the lower thirds...

I never realised Matthew Amroliwala was a presenter on BBC World before helping to launch the News 24 channel.

Yeah well spotted. Also notice that the bottom third showing her name has to disapear before the Nelson Mandela window appears over her shoulder. Looks like they're just crossfading between downstream keys, though someone else here will no doubt understand this better.

Have a look at the 9 minute mark in the 1994 video. Does the man never age?

(I've also just discovered he's married to Channel 4 News's Jackie Long and they have five children!)

If I recall correctly, Matthew was a short-term overnight and weekend bulletin presenter on the old BBC World. I think this was his first stint at newscasting after coming-in from the field (where he served as Northern Ireland Correspondent and North America Correspondent).

I haven't watched the whole video to check, but could it be the case that they only want one BBC logo on screen at a time? It only seems to disappear when there's another BBC logo visible.

I have to interject here about Matthew's previous roles. Those of us old enough will recall him as one of the main faces of the Bosnian Conflict reporting from the front lines alongside Martin Bell, John Simpson and Kate Adie. He also served as a uber proficient Political Correspondent and covered various major stories from Westminster. Wiki doesn't do him any justice whatsoever. I hope I have. Very Happy

Thank you, Matthew. Stay safe!

I'm currently watching the old Louis Theroux programmes that have been uploaded to iPlayer. In 'When Louis Met the Hamiltons' (2001) there's this not very good recreation of the News 24 graphics:

*

Which wouldn't be surprising, since TV recreations of news graphics are never very good. But then earlier in the programme you have this recreation of the Sky News graphics from the same era, which are really accurate. How strange!
