In the Philippines, the final broadcast of TV Patrol, the evening newscast of ABS-CBN. Ending with the messages of officials of ABS-CBN, and the final words of its main presenter. ABS-CBN will go off-air immediately due to license expiration.

To be clear, the closure of ABS-CBN, the largest media company in the Philippines, is not just because its license expired. ABS-CBN's license was not renewed by the government. The illiberal, quasi-autocratic president Duterte has railed against ABS-CBN's coverage of his administration and the reporting of the government's many human rights harms. Closing down independent media is a long-established tool to suppress democracy.

Let's make no mistake, the recent attempts by the UK government to shrink or even shut the BBC are no different. Luckily, the BBC appears to have a reprieve:

Reading into as to why ABS-CBN wen off the air, it's very political and that the Cease and Desist orders are 'temporary' and they've now got 10 days to explain why their frequencies shouldn't t be recalled.

If the company does enough grovelling to the Government, it may come back on air.

To give you some indication of what a storied and influential broadcaster ABS-CBN is, here's a description of TV Patrol -- or just Patrol as it was known then -- from Timothy Green's 1972 book The Universal Eye: World Television in the Seventies:

"In the early evening ABS-CBN run a two-hour programme called Patrol which is really just a public noticeboard for the city of Manila. All kinds of local titbits turn up. Insurance agents are advised that their exams have been postponed. Boy scouts are told where to report to a jamboree. Payment is offered for 500 cc of a rare type of blood urgently required to help a fourteen-year-old boy suffering from bone cancer; anyone who can offer a transfusion is asked to phone the studio immediately. Even photographs and descriptions of several children missing from home in the slums of Manila are given. Patrol calls itself 'the public service programme that makes a city move' and it outranks the imported Bonanza in the ratings."

ABS-CBN's flagship newscast is back but as an online stream. It's running longer than normal but other than that, it looks like business as usual at the newscast and the staff are out in full force.

The new building looks pretty impressive. The temporary set looked the same to me except was the backdrop chroma key or a video wall?

The backdrop was a video wall as well. The temporary set was also within one of their other studios where JTBC’s morning show had moved into temporarily, as seen here
The remaining JTBC news shows still at the Trust building as of this typing is their morning news and their afternoon “News On” and “Political Desk” and are in their respective sets until they move.
